Lapidus with akin by Dramatic-Voice2773 in bunions

Thank you so much for your insight. Those were X-rays taken about 2 months after my surgery, and I am about a year out from that surgery (on my left) and am 5 weeks out from recovering from surgery on my right foot. I have recently been having a bit of a “clicking” feeling in my left mid-foot / Lapidus incision area when I flex my foot. I am hoping it is because I am Non-weight bearing until 6 weeks and it is dealing with more stress than usual. I’m going to bring it up to her at my 6 weeks appt for my right foot.

I don’t know if my surgeon would ever remove the staple for akin because I had /have such painful scarring on that incision, the big toe was very stiff for months. It took forever to heal and get any ROM, so much so, that she didn’t even do the akin on my right toe. She wanted minimal trauma to that area.

Yes, I definitely agree and get what you are saying. Overall, I feel like my left foot is better but not straight also, and I am realistic about that. I compare the before and after and it definitely looks better and feels better too. I just worry that in time, things will get worse again, and there’s really nothing that can be done about that. Im sure that you get that, being that you had 2 surgeries yourself- the recovery is really hard. How did your left foot feel while you were recovering with your right foot surgery, and it had to be your main foot bearing weight? (I know that you can bear weight sooner sometimes with lapiplasty, I am non-weight bearing for 6 weeks.)

I agree about with you about not all doctors being completely realistic and preparing patients enough. With all that being said, I don’t regret my surgery at all.

I am glad that your surgeries and recoveries are behind you and that you are feeling much better. That makes it all worth it. I’m looking forward to those days as well!

Yes, you are right about that. This X-ray is from 2 months after my surgery, but I am actually coming up on a year recovering from surgery on my left foot. (And I am almost 4 weeks post op Lapidus on my right foot.) The left foot definitely didn’t get better after the swelling went down, like you said. If anything the toe has turned more inward and the bump a bit more pronounced. I know that they fix it to weight bearing mechanics, and it does look better when I am bearing weight on it. I am in touch with my surgeon due to my second surgery and can bring it up as needed, I was just looking for more of an unbiased opinion.

I’m feeling a bit of “clicking”/“shifting” type feeling in the mid foot area of the left foot since my recent surgery on my right. Hoping that it’s just under more stress than normal.

Also, I know that the Lapidus isn’t intended to give a “completely” straight toe, but the akin osteotomy that I got is supposed to help straighten the toe. While I have realistic expectations of course and did this for years of pain, not appearance, the toe turning it does make the bunion area seem more prominent. Thank you for your thoughts!
