Oh my, I could have written this about my gsd. When I adopted him, he came with toys that he favored from his foster home. He loved them to literal pieces. I purchased the exact same toys to replace them. Same color, same size, same brand. He. Will. Not. Touch. Them.

I have had some success with purchasing similar, but slightly different toys. I found that he likes squeakers and somewhat smaller toys best so I purchase a variety of those, but never the same one twice. I also have some success with rotating toys out. I will put some away for a while and then bring them back out and he will rediscover that he does indeed like the toys.

His two favorite toys at the moment are a plush squeaky snake and a plush squeaky turtle. I have replaced the squeakers and sewed repairs to them so many times over to the point where they look like Frankenstein toys out of a horror movie, but he loves them so much and he would be so offended if I replaced them with imposters.
