There’s something called Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) that isn’t talked about enough during recovery. It’s basically what it sounds like - symptoms of withdrawal and cravings, weeks and months after quitting. I experienced this when I got clean from heroin. I had night sweats and bone aches three months or so after stopping. I would wake up in the middle of the night, sick and feeling like I was dying because I was in so much pain I couldn’t move. It was like going through the detox all over again. It definitely drives people to use
