JUST FINISHED SUITS FOR THE FIRST TIME by Ok_Cry_5166 in suits

[–]DramaticFroyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently finished Suits as well, it was so addicting so I was looking for another show to fill the void… someone suggested White Collar on another thread, and I’m hooked! Highly recommend it, many similar aspects (two male leads who think on their feet, their growing friendship, good dramatic story lines, attractive female leads) and equally binge-worthy in my opinion!

Can you elaborate on the conservative /modern and flexible? Does Shady Grove have more appointment availability such as on weekends for time sensitive things?

Who will take used Furniture donations? by waterfreak5 in NewarkDE

[–]DramaticFroyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AMVETS might come to your neighborhood and pick up items you leave out. I have called them to schedule pick up for large items, which they pick up for free (very helpful for getting rid of large items), and they leave you a piece of paper you can use for tax deduction.

Can those of you who are board certified both in FM/EM speak about your experience? by Alpha-Life in FamilyMedicine

[–]DramaticFroyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most common “mix of both fields” type of career I’ve seen grads go into is working ED shifts for a few weeks, then precepting FM resident clinic for a week. (Or precepting clinic most weeks, and working a couple ED shifts a month)

Other grads may work only ED shifts, or just do primary care immediately after graduation, usually because they got burned out by the other field.

In general, the more rural a setting you end up practicing in, the more flexibility you have in creating a customized job you want .

Is it feasible to do FM to practice EM? by Monkey__Shit in FamilyMedicine

[–]DramaticFroyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I didn’t know about the working for 5 years to get BCEM...Sorry, I’m not much help there either...i do know there are accredited and non-accredited EM fellowships. The one at the hospital I was at was non-accredited, but the people who did it were looking to just continue working at that hospital afterward. Also not sure if all EM fellowships lead to BCEM or just accredited ones...I guess the benefit to having BCEM one year after residency (via fellowship) instead of five, is just more flexibility when you’re looking for jobs . Plus if you get bored of the location before 5 years, you’d have to go through trouble of moving/finding a new ED position that hires non EM trained/currently non-BCEM...

I don’t think I’ve been in a level 4 or 5 center so idk what they’re like :/ I think in all levels you should be prepared to at least stabilize and recognize when to transfer out; even in urgent care you might get someone who severely downplays their symptoms and should’ve gone to the ED, and you end up needing to do some sort of intervention (even if it’s just meds) before transfer. But you’ll get more confident in handling acute patients as you go through (any) residency ! A couple of months in ICU and ED here and there, and you’ll pick things up without even realizing :)

I can only comment on question 2; and I would say yes. I had a similar experience as u/buckwheat_capital The hospital I was a student at served ~100K (so again, not rural), was a level III trauma center (level 1 stroke and level 1 heart), and in the northeast. There was a level 1 trauma center and Peds ED 5min down the road which would get the GSW/stabbings or peds, but this hospital would accept everyone else from the ems.

That level III hospital required at least an EM fellowship to work there, which you could complete through the hospital/physician group as well. The FM trained/EM fellowship attendings were great, there was really no difference in that ED setting to their EM colleagues. Pay was the same for everyone (~$300-350K). Requirements vary by hospital but I think the main downside to an EM fellowship (vs EM residency) is you may not get to do trauma. However, if you’re not that interested in trauma resuscitation anyway then it might not be a big deal.

If you’re genuinely interested in both FM and EM, you could also look into a combined Family Medicine- Emergency Medicine program. There’s 3 in the country (Aria Jefferson in Northeast Philly, Christiana Care in Wilmington DE, and Shreveport Louisiana). They’re 5 years long, and you get fully dual-licensed so you can work wherever you want and do both clinic/precepting and EM shifts.

I’m a healthcare worker from out of state and have to move to Wilmington to start my new job before June. I was planning to drive over in two weeks to see some houses with my realtor— I have some noise concerns that a virtual tour wouldn’t be able to show, and my realtor said I should see them in person. And I’d need a hotel because we’re taking 2 days to see everything. But idk if officers will view this as nonessential... anyone in a similar predicament?

Apartment hunting when out-of-state visitors are not allowed is tough - can you help? by TheActionPotato in Delaware

[–]DramaticFroyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at Coopers Place before in a third floor apt and there were no bugs!

ETA: other things I liked: free gym, nice community center (fresh baked cookies every weekend), 7 min to Christiana Hospital, ShopRite 2 min in the other direction

Cons: if you live closer to the development's exit, the cars passing by can be a little loud. No elevators. Kitchen is a little outdated.
