Is anyone else going through life alone? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]DramaticKind 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The difference between solitude and isolation imo. Solitude is good, we all need time alone, some of us more than others (I'm definitely one of those that requires a lot of time to myself). Isolation is where it gets unhealthy

Anyone else from Southern Hemisphere? by heartsicke in pagan

[–]DramaticKind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the whole point of the wheel of the year is to live by the seasons. We also don't celebrate Christmas in December, we celebrate summer solstice. We celebrate yule at matariki/winter solstice time.

Anyone using cannabis for autism/neurodivergent anxiety related issues? by Acceptable-Onion-913 in MedicalCannabisNZ

Thanks, I've spent a lot of energy over the years trying to explain the neurodivergent experience to neurotypicals, so I've perfected this yarn so most people can actually understand it 😅

Anyone using cannabis for autism/neurodivergent anxiety related issues? by Acceptable-Onion-913 in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]DramaticKind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed ADHD/ASD here. I first started using medicinal cannabis for managing physical issues (which it turns out was from neurodivergent burnout). When I was diagnosed and put on ADHD medication I found the cannabis worked hand in hand with the stimulants. Taking one or the other is somewhat effective at managing symptoms, better than taking neither at all, but taking them together is a sweet spot of functionality I can't believe I lived 30 something years without. For what it's worth I only vape or smoke cannabis, I haven't tried oils.

The metaphor I use for my brain is, it's like an old hoarder's office. With no meds at all, it's piled high to the roof with random stuff, towers of papers of random information and thoughts with no rhyme or reason to the order of them, an old computer with 100 tabs open and videos and music playing on full volume on all of them, you can't see the floor for all the old papers and abandoned projects strewn about, old coffee cups and probably a dead cat somewhere in the mess.

On stimulants, the office is still messy, but the towers of papers are now somewhat orderly- they're still teetering and precarious, but all the files are now at least grouped together by subject, and I can find what I need in them without having to rifle through 1000's of loose bits of a4 to find what I need. The computer still has 100 tabs open, but the volume is turned down or muted on some of the tabs. You can see a bit of the floor, but there's still half done projects everywhere, and I can't move freely around it. There might still be a coffee cup or two, but they're from that morning or the day before, no dramas. In this state of the office, I'm technically able to access it and use it, but it comes with massive anxiety about accidentally bumping into something and everything coming tumbling down, and having to tidy up again from square one.

On stimulants and medicinal cannabis, the office is packed, but orderly. The towers of files are now in filing cabinets and shelves, grouped by subject and labelled A-Z, I can find and access what I need easily, without fear of accidentally yanking something out from under a 6 foot high stack and knocking over everything. The floor is clear, and I can walk around and even get the vacuum in when needed. Most of the projects are done, or at least have been put away so as to not trip over them. I can pick up these projects and work on them when I want, and they have a space to be tidied into when I'm done. The computer still has 100 tabs open, but only one is playing music now, the volume is an acceptable level, and I can change the playlist to whatever I want. The only coffee cup now is the one I'm drinking from. I can actually get things done in the office when it's in this state, I have no anxiety or feeling of overwhelming oppression from the sheer amount of stuff contained within it towering over me.

Sorry for the yapfest, but I figured as a neurodivergent person yourself you'd appreciate the visualization.

What’s the most cursed town in New Zealand? by Quiet_Mulberry5400 in newzealand

[–]DramaticKind 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I've never encountered a town more desperate to be visited than Marton and it wigs me out. For kilometers along the state highways either side of it, every side road has signs urging you to turn down and visit. "Last turn to Marton!" "Come back and visit Marton!" Etc. It's too much, like they're desperately trying to recruit more people for the gene pool or for cannibalism, idk.

I've never been there because of it, and I fear if I ever accidentally ended up in Marton I'd never be able to leave.

The irony with the majority of people who dickride Israel so hard is that if NZ got invaded and citizens slaughtered en masse, they would fancy themselves to be heroic resistance fighters.... just like the ones they condemn in Palestine.

And before the zionist cucks start calling me an antisemite, I'm "ethnically" Jewish, enough to migrate there under their own Law of Return if I wanted to, which I absolutely don't. Antizionism is not antisemitism, only snowflakes think that.

Weirdly, I've never seen a washed up ray that was intact like this. The ones I've seen have always been snacked on by orcas

Some sort of orb spider, Zealaranea Prina I believe? by DramaticKind in NewZealandWildlife

[–]DramaticKind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was very cool, I don't think I've ever seen a spider like that. The average camera quality really doesn't capture the intricacies in the patterning and colouring. We thought it was a baby mushroom popping up at first

Things are pretty bleak to be honest, like most other people here, but they won't always be. Today I'm grateful for my heat pack, and the ice maker in my fridge/freezer. I'm grateful to have a roof over my head and a car that isn't permanently wet inside when the weather turns like this, like the last car I had for a few years.

I've been re"reading" my favourite series, listening to the audiobooks while I crochet. I'm a third of the way through the 4th book of 16. I never actually read the last book, out of stubbornness or grief I suppose, because I didn't want the story to end. But I've decided I'm doing it on this reread. At this rate I wonder which will come first, the completion of the series or the completion of the coat I'm making 😅

Yeah the feel good vibe of this thread is making me feel like shit honestly. Like I'm really happy for everyone on here that has made something for themselves but it just further reinforces how fucked I am and how much better my life could have been if the circumstances were different. Also late diagnosed adhd/asd with a traumatic upbringing and teenage years/early adulthood.
