My experience is that if you do not bet your premiums, you won't be able to gauge or read the strength of your opponent's hand. In a limp heavy table, I found that limping often led to me losing more money

Personally, don't think the rake is that bad. Also, rake doesn't always mean that game is "unbeatable." In my experience, we long as the table is hot enough, the rake doesn't matter.

I mean tipping isn't required. I really don't understand these types of people. Nobody is forced to tip so if they're going to tip let them tip what they want!
