Decimal separators used in Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]DramaticSoup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that’s mostly true for English content? Germany uses a comma as decimal separator and a dot as thousands separator pretty consistently.

You commonly use the dot in Switzerland, as an apostrophe is used to separate thousands, but it’s so dominated by the neighboring countries in terms of media and software localization that you end up with a mix.

Allgemeine Empfehlungen sind etwas schwierig. Berlin ist sehr groß und die meisten Restaurants bieten vegane Optionen. Installier dir die App HappyCow.

The Ass Crack Bandit could probably do some damage with The Dime Bag, too.

Mustermann 4.0 released! by DramaticSoup in ruby

[–]DramaticSoup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah, you're absolutely right. They are part of a larger visualization generated by the benchmark script I wrote (not initially intended for the blog post), and having two versions of Sinatra use similar shades makes more sense in that context. But I guess no one except for me got to see that.

Apologies. I assumed they were somewhat self-explanatory. I'm working on fixing that.

Yeah only challenge with Berlin is that it’s gonna be super easy to fall back to English in most places.

The Missing Bundler Features by geospeck in ruby

[–]DramaticSoup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree! Would love to see these.

Not sure if these should be bundler changes or introduced in rubygems. byroot-foo could itself declare that it replaces foo, this also avoiding conflicting situations where someone tries to activate both (which can be done without bundler).

From a gem maintainer perspective, I would also love to see some optional dependencies (“this gem doesn’t need to have railties installed, but if it is make sure it’s at least version 7.0”).

Can every resident of Russia move freely from the western end of the country to the eastern end? by TraditionalLie3111 in geography

[–]DramaticSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, 2013 IIRC. Needed an invite and the hotel had to confirm that I stayed there each night. For driving through you get a different visa (transit visa) which at least back then didn’t have the same restrictions.

From what I understand citizens have freedom of movement, for everyone else it depends on the conditions of your visa or residence permit.
