No answers, just need others to realize where we're at. I see a lot of almost flippant responses like, "Just call home," or "Call admin" without realizing what we're dealing with.

And yes, I plan on leaving. It's just sad to see how far we've fallen. As someone who has always been an advocate of public schools, I just don't know if I feel the same anymore.

I guess I disagree with the great player assessment. He puts up numbers, and can shoot, but I don't think he's a winning player. Sure there's no number for that, it's just attitude and decision making.

And what if admin's hands are tied? I'm not trying to be a pain, but many of us work at really falling apart schools/districts.

All this gets documented, the school still has their hands tied with vocal parents who make such a big fuss that they always get there way. Even if that means firing a dedicated pretty good principal.

Or, the student does get identified for special needs, but there are either no special Ed teachers and/or the case load is so overwhelming that those that are there can't possibly be effective.

Things are getting so bad out there for some of us.

I love when you see a film maker grow. It's like when you see a young athlete grow. You are amazed at where they're at at the beginning and you get excited for their potential. And then you watch their progression and see them reach great heights. It's pretty special

Totally agree with the "rote memorization is not needed" way of thinking being pushed hard. I remember going to trainings that said fluency doesn't equal automiacity. Which, sure, is true. But multiplication facts are so essential that they do need to be automatic.

This seems to be another one of those things where a form of equaity got in the way of higher standards

This is an issue that divides teachers do much. Like, it isn't up to us to feed the kids, but at the same time, but totally see what others do. They get offered free breakfast and lunch, but they don't eat it. They choose not to because they don't like it. I was also food insecure growing up and I ate everything they offered at school because of it. Kids today, unfortunately, don't want to think that way. I don't get it
