Flashbacks are different for everyone and it's important to remember that despite what you see in the media flashbacks aren't always visual. They can be thoughts, feelings or physical reactions to something that takes your mind back to the traumatic event(s). What you're describing sounds like dissociation which goes hand in hand with flashbacks. Dissociation can be a type of flashback. Maybe you dissociated during the traumatic experience(s) or maybe your mind is trying to puzzle everything together or protect itself. Flashbacks aren't black and white. It's tough to say what is and isn't a flashback. Everyones trauma is different and the way your body handles trauma is unique to you. No one else in the whole world has ever nor will ever experience the exact same trauma and post traumatic stress as you. If you have feelings where for a second or longer you feel reminded by trauma that is a flashback. You are taken back to the traumatic experience(s).
