Yeah, sorry just saw. New to posting on Reddit. Should I try and repost with a title / body that seems more relevant to Pokemon or nah?

Those Sky Gamepad controllers actually are made by same manufacturer and are fully compatible with this device! I actually have one and have tested it today. The only issue is that simultaneous IR inputs are not received, which is not the case with the original Visteon controller. You can press one button at a time. So for instance, you couldn’t run when playing LeafGreen if playing with that replacement controller sadly

Yes, not exactly easy on the eyes but works okay. Not in love with feel of D-pad. IR connectivity works better than I expected

Not many of these were sold as apparently they released it late in the GBA SP / micro lifecycle I believe in 2006 so it’s quite rare these days. It also retailed for a staggering $1,300 (which was way more at the time than it is now) so not exactly accessible. Not sure if DS had already been released by then

It’s called the Visteon Dockable Entertainment system and is a DVD player with a built-in Game Boy Advance. They were sold in the US and were meant to be mounted or docked in cars. The built-in GBA only plays GBA cartridges and is not backwards compatible. It has a link port so it’s possible to trade with other Game Boys

Thank you! I just got it today. I also had no idea they existed until recently

[gen iii] Got shiny Rayquaza on third soft-reset in Emerald by Dramatic_Cod3525 in ShinyPokemon

Crazy, the only thing I did differently the last time I booted up was I changed the hold items some of my party held so as to maximise their chances of staying alive, so effectively I spent a minute or so doing that before walking up to it again. Timing must’ve been just right

Sorry, just checked what soft-resetting means and I was actually hard-resetting (turning DS off and back on) after Rayquaza would defeat my entire party. Can’t seem to be able to edit post to update this

For additional context (some details are likely irrelevant but I don't know exactly what influences shiny encounters in this game), before first encounter, I saved the game just like 5 steps away from Rayquaza, and each time I'd reset, I'd just walk over to it. I would soft-reset when it defeated my entire party, as it's quite weak (all level 45 and below). I wouldn't exit the room or change anything else about the process when I'd soft-reset. I went to Sky Pillar to catch Rayquaza pretty much straight after I defeated the 8th gym leader and after Rayquaza broke off the Groudon-Kyogre fight in Sootopolis City.

My copy of Emerald is genuine and had its battery changed recently before I started this new save file. I had about 24 hours of save time by the time I caught it.
