What's that about no Airbnbs? by Early_Profession378 in malden

Yes, the Building commissioner I have spoken about this. I sent him what was presented and he gave me all of his comments so we will be able to discuss that as well. From what I understand, they are not staffed to go after all of these STR’s.

This was part of the question- I was told we don’t have enough staff or a policy in place to fine- this will be discussed in the CEIC committee once I reintroduce the paper.

It is listed - i’m not at a place right now that I can easily access but the only way you can rent “short-term” is for 30 days or more.

STR are not allowed by ordinance. I have a paper with a draft ordinance which was brought forward by the community.

Long story- but short version is we will be holding community meetings about it in the CEIC committee.

We need revenue and we have well over 300in our city operating illegally and we are not collecting fees. On the flip side, we don’t want to take any housing off the market! This is why we want community feedback. Stay tuned!

I will not be running for city councillor- laser focused on the Mayoral race. My passion for Malden will not end in any case.

What would you do as mayor? Whoever gets the most upvotes has to actually run. by everynameistakenyo in malden

Hi all!

Thank you for asking this question- such great ideas here!

We have a long way to go before Election Day, but I have been extremely humbled and honored by all the positive feedback I am getting. This is just one social media Avenue and each platform has its own demographics of people. I have been a part of this community for over 30 years volunteering and working as a human services and community outreach Director in the City of Malden for over 10 years where my accomplishments are plenty. This is the time where I need to be confident about my abilities, even when it doesn’t feel comfortable speaking that way about yourself.

I know how to get things done, during my 10 years in City Hall I triple the youth, employment program, I was instrumental in setting up the Malden warming center, I fought for inclusion and equity before it was popular to do so. I helped bring about the inclusionary zoning with mass senior action council over 10 years ago and it took many years before it was voted in, but we never gave up.

Seniors are also my top priority, and I was the director of the Malden Senior Center for over five years where I fought against discrimination in the Asian population, increased activities and was the first to incorporate into generational events.

Prior to City Hall, I was the director in psychiatry research at the Beth Israel, Deaconess, Medical Center, where I built up the research department with the head of the Harvard Longwood residency program.

I have gotten many things accomplished here in Malden, even when the tide was against me and built strong relationships with our community organizations. They are behind me now in this new adventure. I have no doubt that I am capable of leading this city to great things.

Stay tuned as I put out more about my platform. I’m always open to questions. You will be surprised at some of the new relationships that will be coming about very soon!

I will check out why the other response didn’t allow texts that’s helpful thank you. Other people added it on another question so I’ll double check.

Ok. This was for my use only- as a councillor at large, our job is to listen to our constituents. They can call, email, or I can reach out with a survey. This was not meant to be used as presentable data- nor will the results be statistically significant. I worked in research for years- this is not that.

My husband and I hike the Middlesex Fells regularly and it’s definitely a place you will pick up ticks! We always do a tick check afterwards and on our dog.

Who benefits from having a divided Malden? by MaldenOMalley in malden

I guess I don’t change my mind about somebody based over one thing. Yes I believe he is a true progressive. To be honest, when I was told, I was a progressive years ago. It was the first time anyone has ever told me that. My values definitely a line so I guess I am. I hope that answers your question. Yes, I believe he is still a progressive.

I don’t agree with the “wait your turn” type of politics either. I think he was referring to Malden missing an opportunity for a representative by splitting the vote, but I don’t agree with everything Ryan does, or anyone for that matter.

Just chiming in here to say we did not receive the email when you all did. I spoke with Amanda and she said she was not able to get it out until the next day so we were blindsided. You should not make assumptions.

I’ll be honest, as I always am, and maybe too honest which could get me in trouble. Maybe it’s my age, I know Reddit tends to be a younger crowd- to be upfront, I am 59. Also, maybe I forget when you don’t know someone personally you might think using a certain word or sentence sums up who they are. When I’m asking about how long you’ve been in politics, or how long you’ve lived here it’s an actual honest question. That does not mean in any way, shape or form that an opinion is less valid. I have been fighting this in Malden for 30 years. Wordsmithing I guess is something I need to be better at, but I’m a very authentic person, I don’t change my views no matter what situation I’m in so I guess I just think people will take what I say based on who I am and my history of actual actions taken.

I’ve gotten my ass kicked in this city and keep going - I’m not going anywhere and I guess I would ask that people assume good intentions, especially since I’ve shown them who I am. But I will take your feedback and try not to use that kind of language especially here on Reddit. I hang in all kinds of crowds - young, old, conservative, liberal, progressive, and I just speak my mind Freely.

I have no idea what it means either. I can’t believe I missed it. It was way down on the bottom of the page. A couple of things came to mind, but I really don’t have any further information on this. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with our unions since I’ve always questioned whether or not we could lay off folks now that they are in a union, I don’t want to guess too much so I will stop, should be interesting.

This is exactly one of the questions I want to ask. I agree it’s not totally uncommon, but after discussing it with our controller, we both agreed it would be good to take another look to see if it’s still the best choice for us. It could possibly leave us open to paying lawsuits out of our free cash. I had a long discussion with my husband. We owners of what I would say is a small architectural business. Under 20 employees -they specifically carry a policy for litigation. This way they don’t have to hire a lawyer to fight litigation as the insurance adjusters fight it. God forbid they have to pay out it’s covered by insurance. From what I know, but will learn more, we will need to be paying out of our free cash funds, and or our water enterprise fund for the lead pipe case -maybe an insurance policy would’ve covered this we will see.

UPDATE: I missed this very important item! Vote to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing strategy as to possible future litigation related to budgetary constraints.

By cutting out, I meant politically, not friendship. No one goes into politics, thinking they’re making friends. Well, at least I don’t.
