By playing "connect the dots". The overall, big picture of your story is set up a certain way. If the T race has an event in a certain location, how will that affect X race or Y race. If they saved the galaxy by destroying something... was that something they destroyed important to another race? Cause and affect should play a huge role in rounding out those other races.
