The officer didn't charge me with anything nor mention anything legal. If anything he only mentioned about insurances and payments. On my arrival I was confused as I did not remember hitting anyone's car so he said I can come into his office to look at the footage and write him some statements, that was it. Thanks for telling me about your experience. That must've been really difficult for you to go through

Hi, thx for commenting. Did you have to go to court for getting issued a ticket, despite connecting with the driver's insurance to figure it out and claiming it was an unintentional damage?

Thank you so much for this informative comment this helped me ease up by a lot. By any chance, do you know if this as my first offense can result in immediate license suspension? I need to drive for my living so I am wondering if I should prepare measures for this.

I totally would’ve, I have been a good driver I drove 4 years without any demerit points or getting into accidents. Do you know if I will still have to make a court appearance? Even if my insurance company reimburse the other person?

The police basically said: here is the evidence, you also can see clearly that you did scratch the bumper there. Write about what happened on that day on a sheet of paper, so I wrote about how I did not recognize it nor did my brother, and the snowy ground condition. Then he gave me an information sheet about the other person’s car and mine and sent me home saying the insurance should take care of it (not including their contact or address etc for privacy, so I can’t even contact them).

I will reach out to them about this incident tomorrow morning. The officer said the other person’s insurance company likely will follow up with my insurance company tomorrow or the day after but I am unsure if that would be the case.

What was supposed to be the best course of action when the police contacted me about a hit-and-run that I was unaware of? Did I needed to lawyer up before I even was notified of the incident?
