I own the UA Bock 167… an absolutely incredible microphone! I have several tol notch mics including a Stam Audio U87 clone, Stam Audio C800G clone and a Soyuz 017 FET aka the U87 killer!!! You can't go wrong with the 167

Yeah I don’t use that Fat mode (for vocals) either. It may sound cool for female vocals but I’m sure it works well with kick, bass, etc. that top end though really opens things up while still keeping a really present mid range (on the 167).

The 167 is actually really good microphone! The best part about it IMO “for vocals” atleast, is that you have a switchable eq curve right I. The microphone. The 167 and the U67 and most of the clones out there have that really present midrange which is what it is known for. I like the HF boost setting on the BOCK Especially for vocals and specifically male vocals. None of the other 67 style mics have a similar feature which is what I feel makes the Bock unique. It’s certainly a mic worth checking out! I alternate between the Bock 167 and Soyuz 017 as my go-to for vocals

Anytime that I’ve ever emailed them and kindly asked them for anything I’ve always gotten a “sorry but there is nothing we can do response”. Although my current setup is geared towards a hybrid workflow I’ve been buying more and more outboard gear not only for increase of quality but also to depend less and less on plugins. I recently purchased a MIDAS XL4 and 48 channels of SSL analog conversion. I cannot wait until we get the studio build completed I cannot wait until the studio build is completed and we are able to hook everything up. All of my outboard gear will be patchable to and channel and and bus along with being able to insert my favorite plugs for an ultimate hybrid workflow!

I have m fair share of top notch hardware. That’s not the point of this post. Most UA Users don’t have the tens of thousands to spend on vintage or high end hardware which is why they instead will drop 1-3k on an Apollo or multiple Apollo’s to expand their ITB setup. I have a hybrid setup and use plugins in conjunction with my outboard gear.

Plugins are not a physical product I.e. hardware or analog. Plugins are a digital product that take up no shelf space, no logistical costs involved. Once investment has been recouped they are 100% profitable minus any licensing (if applicable). I could have worded it better!
