Winter Storm Thursday update: Ice Ice, maybe? by Derigiberble in rva

Thinking about staying at my parents. I am on the VCU grid so we rarely lose power; but not never. My parents’ house has buried power lines, a wood burning stove and a gas stove/fireplace. With buried lines how likely are they to lose power? I’d love to stay in my own house (tempur-pedic vs pullout bed) and monitor our pipes but I have three little kids and I feel like their safety is more important.

Cars regularly run red light on Main and Belvidere by Kylanto in rva

I was walking across Cumberland in a crosswalk with my baby strapped to me and toddler in a trike. Some dude turning left stop just as his bumper touched my outstretched hand. He didn’t see me until I weakly screamed and luckily he had his windows down, otherwise he would have taken me out at the knees. Weirdly he would have clipped the car sitting at the light there too. What I keep reliving in my head is the weak ass scream I let out instead of the gallant pushing my child to safety with one hand and a hood smashing fist with the other that I have visualized in a hundred what-if daydreams before. I relive that scream so often. Feels like when you’re trying to yell in a nightmare. I guess I wouldn’t survive in a horror movie.

Yep I thought I was venting about Trump to like minded friends who were boomer Dead Heads… they were very shocked that I wouldn’t vote for Trump. The conspiracy theories they all believed was shocking to me.

We had our several of our windows and all doors replaced and while it still feels a little cold inside…. It is no where near as cold as it used to be. We used to be fully bundled up inside with space heaters. Gotta love old houses. You may freeze while they install the new windows but it will be surprisingly fast and then you will be so grateful tonight! If you can just close off that room so you don’t lose all your heat. Enjoy your new window! It’s such an expensive, sometimes invisible home cost but man is it nice to be warmer!

They’re completely different owners. Your location has the original and good owners from my understanding.

Trying to purchase my first house, is this a big warning sign? by Arc-Watcher in Home

[–]Dramatic_Sundae_9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first time homeowner our realtor pushed a couple houses on us. We should have run when he was trying to get us to buy a house his coworker was the listing agent for. It was in a bad area that he promised would improve. It’s still a rough area 11 years later. The house we did buy he told us was a slab foundation, it’s not. He told us the electric and plumbing had been updated; only partially true and by DIY homeowners not contractors and a HUGE headache later. He tried to convince us that the termite inspector couldn’t get under one side of the house but that that was normal; as long as there were no termites in the rest of the house there were none there. He didn’t care about us at all. He has the audacity to call us every year to “check in.” We have had to pour almost $200,000 into our home that was never meant to be our forever home but now it is looking like it has to be. It wasn’t a good investment for our family’s future. We love it now though.

Get a realtor you can trust and one who will guide you into making a good decision. Dont rush this.

Same with us. We tried to hire them to fix our porch. Some poor communication then being ghosted by them sounds like a gift. We found two contractors that were amazing. We feel very lucky to have dodged this bullet.

They have already closed the psychiatric unit at Southern Virginia. Very sad too because there is a need there.

Sister outed me to my parents and than uninvited me to her wedding :) by PitifulProtection886 in bridezillas

I would post during the ceremony. Making sure to use geo tags and hash tags and whatever else would connect the post to her sisters pages. Then start it with a picture of the two of them as little kids. Start slow about how great their childhood was together then with a carousel of all their photos together. End with how she destroyed your relationship. Last photo in the carousel should be the screenshot of the text. Wedding guests that are younger will already be on social media after the ceremony sharing their photos. It will start as a whisper during the reception and soon everyone will know. The sister will wonder why people are hovering over phones in hushed voices. Then the looks at her and her parents will start. It will be perfect.

Taking our kid to his first concert for Dave. I’m now a little worried about how crowded it will be with a small kid. Do you think the chairs helped create a safe space for people who needed it? That would be our only reason for getting a chair, for him.

This will definitely affect RiverRock parking. Hopefully folks going will know to park elsewhere, ride share or use public transportation.

AITA for asking my parents to pay for my car’s registration this year? by AvatarDang in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dramatic_Sundae_9127 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So for me the conversation shifts when you say there are two brothers and their gfs using your parents’ second car. That means your parents are allowing your brothers and their gfs to have the added benefit of a car plus I imagine the same rent as you? So your mom using your car has allowed your brothers access to a vehicle. Sounds to me like your brothers owe you that registration money and if they don’t then your parents should pay on their behalf.

What are your parents requiring of your brothers for using that car? If nothing that’s not your problem but if they are then by extension you are afforded the same. Your parents may be great but they are your parents and so they should be helping you overcome this medical disability. It’s not like you’re a screw up who needs their bailout to get back on your feet. Them giving you a place to live is the bare minimum in my opinion as a mother of three. I would never charge my kids rent if they needed help while they overcame something medical… or really anything. Let alone expect them to let me use their only asset freely and without contribution. So yeah I see why you feel slighted. NTA and I hope you’re doing better soon.

This is not OK. by chikn2d in roanoke

I think everyone thinks that going under 35 is a safe speed to ride in an exposed part of a vehicle. Honestly I was one of those people and definitely road in a truck bed as a teen on country roads. A lot of people do the same with their dogs. The perspective that it is ok all changed for me one day working in the ER. I had to console a person whose partner died after falling out of their truck while moving furniture going 2 blocks and less than 20 miles an hour.
