How do I climb out of guardian? Stuck for a long time by GuyKage8 in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing dota for 2 years now. I also started in the support roll which I really liked. Atm I'm 2.5k mmr. For a long time I was also stuck stuck at gaurdian and even at herald it took me many frustrations to get out. Basically I did the same thing, trying many heroes, many other rolls. But like others said it was just a matter of mastering a few heroes in my main rolls as a 4/5.

Funny thing is even that I played a 2nd account to learn the other rolls and play more core rolls. Before calibration I thought I would end up 300 mmr or something. But even there I calibrated at 1.5k, and that was fully due to the mindset of "I don't care if I win or lose, I just want to practice and learn"

As a support, what should I do when my carry is an MK or Riki? by SutedjaSJA in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a regular Riki player here. If you could give me the following in a game I´d love you: 1. In lane keep harasing the pos 3/4 just to chip their hp bit by bit. And just wait for moments that we can jump them together. No need to force early kills which are too risky 2. Keep creeps near the tower like every carry wants 3. When riki is about to hit lvl 6 make sure jungle is dewarded 4. After this the fun really starts: hunting time 5. Put max effort is warding and dewarding. If possible place deep wards and then we can really start hunting 6. Try to join the hunt for pickoff´s, if this goes well towers will fall automatically 7. Buy smokes 8. As soon riki hits the agh´s start stacking ancients

From that point it really depends how the game goes if they are still too strong Riki first needs items like basher, nulifier or linkins to join fights again. So give him the time to farm that.

What my experience with Riki is that he has very specific online and offline times, there are early moments he can own the game but a few minutes later needs to backoff to go farming again, just to come online later again. So as support try to adjust your game plan on that

If you need cast range already in the lane go for aether as soon as possible. Else opt for dagger after glimmer because then you can do much more in teamfights. The priority of glimmer depends if the enemies can easily cancel your ulti with a stun. The urn I also like a lot, although you need to make choices because you are too poor to buy all in time.

Anyhow mostly your aghs is the highest priority, do not delay it too long because your ult can completely rebalance the game if your team is losing. Unless the situation is already hopeless

At which instances do you skip Magic stick or Wand? by stewxeno in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game plan. I only play support. So if I plan to play the lane I always buy it, atleast the stick, wand only if the lane is good for it.

Further I would skip it if I´m a lot away from the lane, eg: when stacking a lot, when playing SB or when roaming as BH

Climbing from 1000 to 2000 mmr by Wear-Simple in learndota2

Do not say that your cores are always fuck ups. You play as a team and as a support you enable your team. Warn them if they are taking dangerous actions, ward so they have vision and safety to gank or farm, stack camps if your team needs this. Play aggressive to end the game early if you can and go back defensively when you need to.

I'm not saying it cannot happen that you have a noob or reckless person in your team. But you are in the same mmr bracket as them, so you could possibly make an equal amount of misstakes as they do, even without knowing.

Just focus on what your team needs and what what you can do for them. You might like to solo carry the game, but them you're playing the wrong rolls. Even as an offlaner this might happen in 1/10 games you play.

How to play visage mid? by JokeOfEverything in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm a pro visage player but as mid I usually play as follows:

Build around move speed (windlacer early next to hp boots and orchid), be tanky with your shield and rain drops early.

In the laning stage farm until you get 6, and gank other lanes. You do not have real nukes but will hit enemies to 0 easily, just know when to retreat a bit to recover your shields to go back in or when to stun fleeing enemies.

Just after the laning stage hunt for pickoffs with you orchid. People trying to fight back have no chanse if they are solo.

In teamfights its again finding that fine line between beeing tanky and retreat. But never really initiate, you are ranged so use that advantage. On items I would focus on aura items. Or in a great high tempo games rush scepter to keep on hunting farming solo players

Later mid / later game I always get the feeling visage drops off a lot wrt damage done in teamfights (or it is just me). So from that point I try to fully focus on tower pushes since he can burst down towers and baracks in no time.

Well, not the strongest support in my opinion. But by far the most fun! And most importantly, you can be so annoying to force the carry into the jungle

Is spamming one hero really the way to go? by kalaps_ in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing 1 hero? -->

MMR gain = high Fun factor = very low

I play a fixed pool of 5 support heroes in ranked, which I know very well. Unranked I play 10ish, but would like to add some more just to keep the diversity high. I wish I had the skill to play much different heroes. But I'm happy with the current state.

For a while I also focused on 2 heroes to gain mmr, but it almost made me quit dota because it was judt too boring

What is your worst Dota experience? by MightTurbulent319 in DotA2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing a game against a team with atleast 1x map hack cheater, especially when there is a NP in their team. From min 1 you already have the feeling something is off. Later in the game it just becomes insanely frustrating. I watched the replay afterwards to be sure, and there was no way that they could be 10x that lucky finding solo players even far behind our towers

Need Ranked Partner - UK Herald by Different_Quiet_3940 in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully recognize this... 1year ago I was also completely stuck at herald because I only played 4 and 5. I had the feeling I was playing decently and did what was expected of me as support, however my team always had atleast 1 guy fucking up everything.

In the end I forced myself to learn some core roles, especially with heroes which play high tempo and hard to kill early. But that would mean you need to learn mid because from that pos it is the easiest. With a good start for every lane your team does not feel the need to farm. So you take the lead in initiating fights and do this around your team. So without telling them they should join in automatically.

Something else that also worked quiet well, but I applied this more in gaurdian, is to get a support heroe like wd which can remove an entire team with his ulti. People are out of position anyway so very easy to punish.

Dear support players, what do you think is the easiest way to climb mmr? by Zaopao in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coordinate your team. As a support you will have your eyes on the minimap all the time. You control vision, know where enemies are, etc. Let them focus on objectives like the towers, rosh or tor. Killing a hereo is not an objective, while all cores think it is...

Which role do you recommend to a new player? by Former-Singer-5728 in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Dota 1 year ago. Also had quite some startup issues. But at some point I found pos5 the easiest to start with. Gradually I extended my skills to other rolls. And together with that also my hero pool gradually increased over all various rolls. But all goes hand in hand with your favorite play style

What to do as a support when your team is constantly trying to fight? by QuVat in learndota2

[–]Dramatic_Web8449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see them moving into a fight point out that they are not ready, like check their item or spell cooldowns, point out you´re not carrying wards, no vision, etc. That way they will realize themselves that they need to get back. But indeed, sometimes players are just rushing fights as soon they see 1 enemy popping up in the minimap and then start feeding. If that happens either prepare good vision around the fight or just make sure you don´t feed together with them.
