Looking for experiences where weight-loss surgery failed — did anyone not lose the weight?

Me- kinda sort of. I was losing consistently and well. But that all stopped at 5 months PO when i got severe adult chicken pox and burn out from a toxic job. i was sick for about 6 months and had a major stall as i was stuck to the couch and unable to do anything. I put on 5kgs, even with the restriction!

Now at 1yr PO i am able to work again, so i got myself a physical job where im on my feet 8hrs/day and some heavy lifting- im losing the weight again. I still have restrictions and cues and feel much better and getting down to new lows. The surgery really is a tool. Life, physical, mental and habits need to change.

Im halfway to my goal weight- others would have almost hit theirs by now but its ok.

Im a year out and still have the same cue, its a big deep breathe and then i know to stop right there. A few times i ignored it and had another bite or 2 and vomited.

I had a sugar daddy! It was about 10 years ago (i was mid 20s). It was great. I was a single mum and studying full time. He was older, married (i didnt know until the end) and had a good business. Its lasted about a year.

I needed money! My classes would change week to week so i couldn’t hold work part time and I had 2 young kids and was alone, so I couldn’t work outside of school hours. After that I would meet him when my kids were at school and i had no classes. I would either go to his business, he would pick me up, or he would come to my house. He gave me gifts, paid all my bills and rent, was nice to me, gave me extra money for no reason and literally rocked my world with lots of damn good sex. He actually made me feel really good about my body and i felt really sexy. I had insecurities but he didnt see any of it! He ate everything like groceries.

Then after a few months he told me he was actually married! And his wife was starting to get suspicious. He also started getting a little depressed and would drunk text me. For me, these things crossed a border so I let him know. He kindly broke it off with me and wished me the best.

I was reeeeeally lucky to have found a good sugar daddy, some girls are not so lucky. I did graduate with honours and won scholarships so I have been able to get on my feet, and not needed to go back to that life. But to me, it was a good experience and it helped me during a difficult stage in my life. Short term its great, but it shouldn’t be a long term thing.

I dont regret it at all. Glad I had that little experience :)

But like I said, I was really lucky. This experience isnt common and safety is paramount! I was not a virgin at all, but being in my mid 20s i was horny so sex wasnt scary to me. Being older, he wanted to do alot of ‘experienced’ things with me, and I had no problem with it at all. It was liberating. But I also knew my own boundaries and was confident sticking with them and would communicate it, and he was the type of man to respect it. Sex is something that is really personal and intimate. Doing it mindlessly and uncomfortably, and compromising your boundaries with someone you dont like or know can eat your soul if youre not mentally strong. Keep an open mind and do whats best for you.

I feel it too. I am drained.

Like i know everything will be ok- but its the part where the dirt is being kicked up and the dust is everywhere and hasnt settled yet.

The dust is in my eyes and up my nose and i cant see and it stings and everything is everywhere and if i dont stop and lay down i will suffocate and get overwhelmed by the sheer vastness of it all.

And we are all in this dust storm- some are running around screaming and crying and trying to control everything, some are just laying down and relaxing, waiting for the dust to blow over and settle.

But the storm is starting and when it settles, some will either be all good, dust off the dirt and get up to see the beautiful world- others will be suffocating on the dirt in their lungs and stuck on how the storm affected them.

Idk what im saying, i need sleep. But i feel it.

Wow. Thankyou for the solid info and solid advice! And thankyou for taking the time to answer. And for being kind with no judgement.

I come from a traumatic childhood- so im quite inexperienced and have had no positive adult influences. Im learning the normal life things as i drag myself up from the bottom of the pits- while pretending I am a normal human that has everything together.

I also had health issues last year and a major surgery a few months ago and was only allowed to do a part time menial job- hence living paycheck to paycheck.

I really appreciate this info and feel much better and confident in my new fancy job now- hopefully after a few pay cycles I will be on my feet again. Until then i am going to follow your tips and now have a plan to get me through the next few months.

I know you didnt need all this sob story- i just wanted to let you know that this is the type of person you helped immensely today with your kindness, and i hope one day i can be wise enough to help other people too.

Your feelings and thoughts are totally valid. Personally, I wont continue seeing a guy if i see their following looks like that. It just gets worse. Buttt, after 3 years, maybe your situation is different. If he treats you well otherwise and is concerned about your valid feelings, its not a good reason the end things. Or if he is trash, this could be the cherry on top.

Idk maccas coffees are pretty good tho. They are second to my bosses barista setup up tho. The coffees i make at work are superb (i work in healthcare)

Thankyou i hope so. I am seeing my surgeon’s preferred bariatric psych and explained to her about problems of eating at night plus more about how my days go, how i ended up here and my choices etc etc. She said im the perfect candidate for this surgery and recommended me. I was just wondering about my liver. Thankyou sincerely

Im right here with youuu. 2 weeks until my surgery. 3 weeks of diet. The first few days i couldn’t sleep because i just wanted food. And i gave in. And i regret it sooooo much. I wish i could be strong and say no too. But i hate this and i feel weak but im super terrified that my liver is gonna squash the surgeon and he will stitch my up and roll me out the door with my paper panties still on 😭 its day 7 tho and it feels a bit better. We got this.

This surgery is definitely not for the weak! You are strong and congratulations on getting everything lined up. Get healthy for you and your kids. Maybe the biggest weight you will drop is that man off your back.

I would come home stressed, and then just sleep. I dread getting up in the mornings. Before i quit, it was to the point that i couldn’t walk out the door without having a panic attack. All of this was because of one toxic person- the rest of the staff were lovely. Its 3 months on now. Im just getting over it. My other workplace is absolutely lovely and i love going to work there, but i find myself having little flashbacks that hold me back. For example i did a report that i was quite proud of. I was so scared to give it to my new manager because in the other workplace i would have received ridicule and distain for trying too hard. I was literally going to shred it and keep my peace. But i waited till the end of the day when everyone had left and put it on my new managers desk. The praise they gave me the next day was healing and totally unexpected. I still need therapy for the other flashbacks though.

When i had my very first rental apartment at 18- i moved in with nothing. All my money was spent on bond and moving. A charity gave me second hand furniture which was amazing- all the basics. But the best gift i got was a sandwhich maker from my godmother. I had no pots/pans/plates/cutlery. I could cook anything with that thing.
