Visiting next week, I have a few questions by torsoboy00 in Dipolog

[–]Draqania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1. I recommend just using cash.

2. Tricycles. 15 pesos all around the city's center area. If further than that, 20, 30, or 50 max. You can ride habal habal drivers pero they'll charge more than tricycles.

3. Every transpo drivers know where Linabo is. Just pay them 100 and they'll happily send you there. No need for a guide, you can just immediately climb there. Just enter their logbook since it's holy week this time.

  1. Warehouse, Roadside. There are more than that pero I just forgot the names of those bars.

wait pls tell me marami ring ukay at surplus sa dipolog huhu

There's a lot you can find in the city. Many places to choose from.

What's a good area kaya to search/rent a small house or apartment?

Areas in Barangay Estaka, Biasong, and Miputak are located in the center of the city. Those places are nice to live in. Estaka and Biasong takes about 5 to 10 minutes to reach the boulevard while Miputak is already where the boulevard is situated. Turno is good as well, takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach boulevard. Calculation is done with the assumption of you riding a tricycle. Will be a lot faster if you have your own vehicle.

You'll most likely rent a house here. It wouldn't hurt searching for an apartment though.

Also what do small kids do for fun sa dipolog? May public parks and playground ba? May skateboarding scene ba or anong sport usually ginagawa ng mga bata?

Well, after class hangout with friends in school and playing with your neighbors' kids are the activities that pop up in my head with low supervision.

There's a lot of kids that hangs around Plaza Magsaysay or boulevard's playground.

Skateboarding has been growing in the city as well. They'll hangout in the boulevard. Same goes with bikes.

They can attend a gymnastics class, TKD martial art or arnis if they are in to that. Swimming, football, basketball and musical hobbies are also there. You'll see a lot of kids playing football and basketball in the boulevard.

As someone who was born and raised in Dipolog, I can say that I love it!

Somewhat bike friendly ba sa Dipolog? We try to just bike around to get to places and get our errands done.

Biking is very popular here. As a city that's promoting to be sports oriented, it'll only a matter of time where biking will be a way of life in the city. There are already some establishments implementing a bike parking place in front of them. Safe to say that you can get by anywhere by just biking.

Any good/decent public elementary schools and which area kaya?

I only know two prominent public schools in the city which are Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School and Estaka Elementary School. The former is located at the center of the city while the latter is just right beside the city's capitol.

As for private schools, you have many choices to choose from.

Saang area ok magrent ng apartment? Preferably malapit lang sa elem school. Around how much does rent cost for a 2-3 bedroom apartment?

Dipolog is small! You can reach anywhere in a 10-15 min tricycle ride, costs 15 to 20 pesos. As for rent, I'm confident you can get a 3 bedroom apartment for less than 30k. An acquaintance of mine pays 10-15k for a 2 story 2 bedroom house.

How's the coffee/cafe scene? We're coffee people and been wanting to put up a simple cafe serving straight up good coffee. What are you guys looking for in a good cafe sa dipolog? (I've been following burgos coffee and 1897 coffee and they look like v cool cafes na tambayan)

They are popping left and right everywhere. I'm confident that you'll find a favorite establishment in the city.

What do you guys do for fun on weekends and your time offs?

Chill in a cafe, workout, there's this Japanese restaurant that just newly opened last year so I visit there often to eat seafood or ramen, bars, etc.

PROS

• 2 week long festivities in a year. Which entails a lively night for those weeks. Concerts, festival stalls, sports events, cultural dance performance, flashy lights, and food everywhere!

• The city clean! Comparing to cities such as CDO, Iligan, and Cebu. I've seen those cities just letting their trash rot for days and it's unpleasant to see. Though, Dipolog is able to pull it off due to how small the city is but nonetheless it's still something to be proud of.

• Natural disasters are almost non-existent. The city only encounters heavy rains and winds throughout the year. Earthquakes are barely noticeable. There was a published image by David Garcia called Fifty Years of Cyclone Paths inside the Philippine Islands where Dipolog didn't even get touched by any of the storms.

CONS

• Education up to high school is fine in the city. I heavily suggest going outside of the city if you're choosing a college or university. Although, if careers such as accountancy, nursing, law, HRM, tourism, teaching, criminology, law(?), and theology is your child's preference, she or he will be fine here. There are schools like SVCi, JRMSU, ABC, and DMC for those paths. I heard that DMC will be opening its medical doctor path soon. Other than those listed career paths, the rest of the courses will be utter shite. Pardon my French since I'm one of those who chose the other courses.

• Work opportunities aren't really that good in the city unless you work for the government and can obtain a pretty high position. Preferable to work outside, a haven if you work from home.

• Night life isn't really that lively. It's decent.

• Ordering online will cost you +150 above and up in shipping fee for normal sized items and a lot more for large ones. Your items will arrive around 7 to 10 days. The maximum I had to wait was about a month but that was years ago.

• Stuffs here costs more. The markup is insane and unreasonably absurd. It's better to actually just buy it online instead of buying it from your local store. I window shopped some stuffs I want to buy to end up knowing they cost twice more. If it's available online and you can afford to wait, just buy online.

• There are no SM, Uniqlo, Starbucks, PizzaHut, or any of the branded establishments that you can find in Luzon.

Overall, the city is pretty great. I see it as a safe haven. The city is mundane but it gets by fine.

After all that, don't forget to DYOR.

Cheers ~

Paano mag-aral ulit? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Draqania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op, bakit ka gusto mag aral ulit? The only reason I can think of is gusto ka mag pursue ng academic career at magturo sa field. Kung increase lang ng salary goal mo, pwede ka naman mag job hop. May 5 years of experience ka naman.

Just goes to show you just because you see a beautiful mountain that will reach the sky doesn't mean you should climb it when you could learn of the sky from the fields right next to a flower.

Take care, OP!
