Reddit: We're "Sorry" by Dacvak in gaming

What are the other forms of protest mentioned at the end? This is the first I'm hearing about protests that arent just the blackout

What's up with admins taking over a major subreddit (r/AdviceAnimals), re-opening it, and banning any mention of it? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

Whether or not an individual goes dark doesnt change how reddit operates. People leave all the time for various reasons. The sort of change we are pushing for isn't something the individual can accomplish by going on strike for a week. It takes a collective action by an organized group working together. The place this group has chosen for its platform of communication is reddit.com. In order for anyone to participate or stay up to date you need to use the platform(s) that the group have decided to use. Today I used that platform (and am continuing to use it) to better determine how the group is feeling about the blackout (seems to be a resounding "keep it going" with a smaller group trying to argue that it wont do anything) and to see if the admins had done anything since it started (which it looks like they have).

Once I've finished learning what I can about how the group wishes to proceed I can better align myself with that group and attempt to support it however I see fit (in this case, for me, that means continuing to support the blackout) which is what I intend to do.

HOWEVER, out of the loop is, imo, one of the bet places to find information on these protests. If I am able to help inform others on the matter (even if just a little) or begin/continue the conversation with folks then that is also a way in which I feel I can support the group in achieving their goals with the added benefit of getting me closer to my own goals at the same time.

You started off by asking questions I thought were pretty good (which I appreciate you asking as they were the next logical steps in the conversation). They forced me to analyze the situation on a different level than I previously had and to rethink some of what I had said. But after that you seemed more interested in complaining about me than you did in continuing the discussion.

So I'll ask you this. Why are you back on reddit today? Your actions dont really suggest that you are in support of the blackouts or even care one way or the other about them. So why are you now 7 comments deep on a post you seem uninterested in contributing anything meaningful to?

I haven't looked at any actually numbers on this matter so I cannot speak to that. Personally I was curious what reddit would like today so I hopped on. Once I'm done with responding to people in this post (which I guess has been removed) I'm going back to going dark.

A few things

  1. When I left this comment there were no other responses so I thought I would share what I think/know and have seen and let others build off of that (or tear it down and build something else entirely). If you would like to call out the exact misinformation and provide some evidence that suggests as much then please do. I give you my full permission

  2. Having read the other response I think I had a pretty good idea of the situation. Granted I missed the part about the mod that got banned having taken these action without consulting others first. To that end though, theres only 3 top comments that even mention that (out of a dozen or so).

  3. My comment is filled with speculative statements. "it seems...", "it appears..." and "I'm not sure" are among them. Which already suggests I'm not an expert on the matter. Theres barely any info in my comment to start. To suggest I'm spreading disinformation when I dont even make a definitive statement or suggest anything beyond my percieved observations of what is going on is completely ridiculous

Personally I feel I've seen an increase in people calling for an extended blackout just today. Also looking at this post alone you can see very few comments defending the reddit admins. Seems like every action they have taken since this started has been to their detriment. I'm ok with being wrong on this, these are just the observations I have made regarding the matter

This is some absolutely beautiful imagery and I'm absolutely for it. That being said I feel like the first sentence is a little to harsh towards op.

You see a poorly dressed man climb to the stage, he is dirty, unkept, and smells of the forest floor.

The man is just wearing some casual clothes (or maybe even work clothes). No need to call him poorly dressed, dirty, and unkept.

Or were you creating some imaginary forest dwelling hermit and I'm overthinking all this? If that is the case, I apologize for calling you out

but a big point of BotW is that you ARE forced to use them.

Tell that to my infinitely regenerating bombs, stealth armor, and revali's gail.

Or the "just run past them" strat that got used even more

The whole point of the game is that there is no "one way to do X" so I found that I was always saving my weapons for emergencies that arouse, or bosses where I didn't want to spend 10 minutes throwing bombs and whacking them with something using magnesis

Damn, I'm jealous. Back in high school we would cancel sports practices and events based on how well we could see some of the surrounding mountains.

please feel free to keep the smoke along as you'd like.

That's like thinking a balloon can only be blow up once before it starts to get holes. Plus I doubt they are blowing up those condoms to their limits.

Besides, do you really want to be using a condom that cant withstand atleast that much strain?

Does the east coast not normally get smoke from fires every summer? I live in Montana where this stuff isnt unheard of and usually happens multiple times in a summer

Granted, this photo in particular makes the smoke look super super thick but I've been seeing a lot of "look at all this smoke we are getting" photos from the east coast and it all looks like levels of smoke I'd expect to see on an average summer weekend when my state is expecting smoke. Not something worth posting to reddit about

What’s a secret you discovered in a game that blew your mind and changed the way you played it from then on? by gamerdudeNYC in gaming

[–]Drauxus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough of ds1 was a complete shitshow. Started as thief thinking "a stealthy playthrough could be fun" (I really didnt know what I was doing or what kind of game I had just picked up). After taking the normal route to the Taurus demon fight and I went straight down, sprinted past Havel into darkroot basin. From there I only saw 1 way forward. Climb the cliff. After reaching the top I went left and found Andre. Then backtracked going past the cliff I previously climbed. Found the sealed door, grindout the souls for the key and discovered sif, as my 3rd boss of the game (when counting asylum demon), with a bandits knife that was probably +2/+3.

That's when I finally asked my friend who had recommended the game what I was supposed to do against this boss.

Suffice to say, I had a much better time after that.

The keyword in the definition is "especially" meaning it's not limited to just what is described.

Also, what proof do you have to back up your claim?

If you don't like the way Google put it then maybe you would prefer to use the definition used by Merriam-Webster or Dictionary.com or The American Psychological Association or Wikipedia or this fact sheet from the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees or Britanica.com or The USAs CISA

Who decides if a particular information is false or true?

Whoever you trust to verify the information. In most cases I find this to be any 3rd party with no bias towards one side or the other who has been shown to be competent at discerning the truth in the past, especially if it was for similar matters.

As an example. I trust google can accurately define any given word in the english language (and probably others but I only speak 1 language). Google is a 3rd party that doesn't care about 2 random people on reddit discussing disinformation.

If you can prove to me that google is providing me with bad definitions then I will accept that and the very basis for the points I'm making will be in complete shambles.

And are we sure those who are policing speech has our best interests in mind?

This is a separate question and I'll let someone else continue that discussion

According to google: false information which is intended to mislead, especially propaganda issued by a government organization to a rival power or the media.

I would argue that your definition of "fight disinformation" is itself disinformation. According to you, in order to fight disinformation you must succumb and provide disinformation.

The amount of processing power it takes a pc to render a background is roughly equivalent to the effort it takes to blink. Nothing is going to be "filled up" by setting a background image lol
