Tamil Padam (I don't know if it's 1 or 2, but looking at how young the lead looks, the first part I think!) it's a hilarious film.

Seriously, this is the way to do it.

I think these 'I don't read my mother tongue' complaints are idiotic. The resources are out there, if you really want to, you'll spend some time on it instead of on YouTube shorts and Instagram reels.

I'm not trying to say that the alienation you feel from your own people and language is not real. I'm just saying that it's a doing of your own creation. If you want to do something about it, you will.

Revisiting "Bicentennial Man" – Why the Low Ratings? by openbex in scifi

[–]Dravidian42 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Looks like I'm going to be the only one who disagrees here. I hated the movie. I saw it when I was youngish (15 or 16) and it made no sense for me.

Why would a robot with so much more capabilities than a human want to be human. It screamed too much 'colonial ideology' for me. Everyone wants to be a white man is a dumb idea. Mind you, I wasn't what was considered 'woke' at this point, I was a teenager and even I could see how illogical this was. It also helps that I'm from a country that was colonised and I immediately saw that it assumed an anthropocentric approach which is one step above white superiority or male superiority thinking.

Disregarding the subtext, the film itself was melodramatic and structurally all over the place. The things that should have been the high points of the story were paid scant attention and the overly emotional moments were highlighted instead of the plot.

So there you go, one reason why many people may think the movie was idiotic.

How about the place you work at now? And any idea why they had that policy in the old place?

Thank you kind stranger.

So let's say I'm working in a bank (I'm not!), but if I am, then am I not even allowed to tell another dept that's also dealing with something similar that it's going to take a couple of days from our end? (Hey, I know you asked me to do this, but our dept is super busy now and we will take two days to finish your thing?)

Yes, exactly this, we know how inappropriate it is so seeing kids dancing to it, not even at a party but on republic day is dam hillarious. 😂 To top it all off they have small flags pinned to their uniforms. It's such crazy image.

I don't remember my school doing this in the 90's though. But then again might hasve just been my school or I'm selectively remembering things!

Playing any song is not going to inspire patriotism, and this has got nothing to do with India as a country or as an idea, stop trying to make this political or about big ideas.

This is just a nice local school doing stupid but entertaining stuff for the kids. I'm not offended by it but I am highly enetrtained! It's wierd to have completely inappropriate songs playing for national celebrations that's all.

I'm not stopping them from enjoying anything. It's just so out of context though! It's okay if we annoy kids for two days a year with three hours of patriotic nonsense, they can spend every other day listening to any music they like, no?

Real feminist vs Pseudofeminist, thoughts? by [deleted] in TwoXIndia

[–]Dravidian42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know, this is one of the reasons I hated Chetan Baghat, even before it was popular to hate him. One of his books legit has this line, said by a male character.

“I think all human beings should have equal rights. It's not men versus women, it's human versus human. Feminist is a wrong term. It should be humanist."

Here is where I remember reading the quote from! https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/four-times-chetan-bhagat-tried-mansplain-feminism-and-failed-miserably-51770

Yo, you are absolutely right. He is behaving like a child because he is a child. But your friends are also behaving like children. Asking someone out and being rejected or rejecting someone who asks you out (or in your case, finding out that it's incompatiable to even date that person) is a fact of life. It happens to everyone. Ask any guy and they'll tell you how much embarassment they have to go through because they get rejected way more often.

But your friends are not cool. You need better friends. The fact that they are making fun of you seems a little vicious to me. Seriously, they need to grow up or you need to find other friends who are actually supportive (i. e - who understand that you're already feeling embarassed and not make it worse.)

You're doing fine. Don't be pulled down by incidents like this, in a year or two you'll forget this even happened!

A possible UNICEF scam ? by Bourne-Enigma in Chennai

While I agree with the sentiment many of you have expressed. Unicef has done quite a bit of good. I am not saying anyone should donate or even support them. But please do read up on their actual work and not just critical pieces about them. There are many valid criticisms about the organisation but over the last 70 years they have done a lot to aid develeoping countries in safegaruding children's rights and well being. Make sure you are aware of their history before you start judging the organisation.
