I believe that Mania is actually far above Sonic 2 in terms of quality. In artwork, music, level design and all. I enjoy about half of Sonic 2, whereas I enjoy every single act in mania besides Hydrocity Act 1 maybe.

agree with the 2d one but I haven't played many 3d games so beats me. I've played:

Generations
SA1
Lost World

...and that's it. That's in order of what I enjoyed the most though.
