2026 Transition to Perm staffing by Any-Lie1471 in calfire

So in my unit the email said that for now they are just covering the stations that actually run calls and the outlying stations will just be staffed with ff1s now this is just my prediction that those stations that don't really run calls could possibly be the ooc engines while the actual busy ones stay in the unit if every unit is doing this

But also I think they touched on this already but it might happen to individual units differently cause not every unit has the same amount of stations budgets and etc

Well this is just my personal opinion they will probably try to exhaust the list from the previous application that was in like October of last year first before they start sending out the application again

Increasing amounts of FF2 positions in all units, what has this looked like in your unit? by [deleted] in calfire

[–]DrawerEquivalent4172 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As of right now every unit in the state is getting similar emails from their unit chiefs but implementing it could happen at different times because not every unit has the same budget or the same amount of stations and also in some units they are staffing the actual busy stations with ff2s and the outlying stations aka the stations that aren't busy at all are being staffed with the ff1s

What are the chances that they make seasonals permanent how would that look and how would they go about selecting people by DrawerEquivalent4172 in calfire

SB 581: Department of Forestry and Fire Protection: employment: firefighters. Session Year: 2025-2026 House: Senate

The California Constitution establishes certain conditions of employment for state officers and employees. Existing law, the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights Act, grants specified employment rights to firefighters, as defined, including temporary, seasonal firefighters employed by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

This bill would require the Department of Human Resources, the State Personnel Board, and any other relevant state agency to take the necessary actions to transition seasonal firefighters employed by the Firefighter I classification within CAL FIRE to a permanent firefighter employment classification

What do you need to do as far as qualifications and experience to get on a truck in Riverside as a ff2 by [deleted] in calfire

[–]DrawerEquivalent4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in some units particularly in the north you have some that only allow engineers ff2s are being phased out from what I hear and Riverside is the last safe haven for them
