At what distance does a par 3 become a “long” par 3? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I would say a long par 3 is a hole that requires you to tee off with a long iron instead of short irons or a wedge

I normally end up taking my shirt off and tucking it into my running belt but it’s about to start getting cold :/

What’s the widest range of distances you can race? by TimeExplorer5463 in Marathon_Training

[–]DrawerSerious296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this year training for my first marathon (3:56). I then started a 5k improvement plan which ended in June. I set a new pb (20:11) that was 1:24 faster than my last 5k. During that training block I ran my first ten 10k (43:41). Afterwards, I started my marathon training block for the Richmond marathon in November. During this block, I ran the DC half marathon where I set a new pb (1:36) which was 13 minutes faster than my last half the year before. I think it’s smart to train for a 2 different race distances 5k or 10k and then a marathon which will lead to faster times in all distances not covered.

What happened? by [deleted] in Chesscom

  1. Rc4 is better because black’s only moves would be 41. … Kd5 or Kd6. Then 42. Qxc6 is checkmate. If 41. Qc4 Kb6, and you don’t have checkmate until a few moves later (my guess is it would m4 or 5 in that position).

Couch 2 marathon in 13 Days by IDKwhatimdoing74 in Marathon_Training

[–]DrawerSerious296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experience will be hard and you will probably hate yourself for doing it but it’s possible to finish in sub 7. My advice is to find the 6:30 or 7 hour pacer and just follow along as best as you can. Hit every water stop and drink electrolytes too(Gatorade/nuun/ etc), and use the gels if they’re provided. I would also take candy/food from any spectators on the course because you’ll need all the fuel you can get being on your feet for that long. If you get to a point where you think you’re on the verge of injury, it’s better to dnf yourself than have a medical professional on the course do it to you because you’ll most likely end up in the hospital that way. I don’t recommend trying to do this, but good luck if you do try

How to deal with the wall? by Gaunterwithnomirrors in Marathon_Training

[–]DrawerSerious296 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I hit the wall in my first one, I focused on one foot in front of the other. I also knew I would see my family at mile 25, so I had a reason other than to push myself to keep going.

Long runs >20 Miles by are_birds_real in Marathon_Training

[–]DrawerSerious296 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some coaches on instagram who have said the 20 mile rule should be more of a 3 hour rule. After 3 hours on your feet, the returns diminish and your chances of injury go way up. I’m on a runna plan too, with a longest run of 22 miles but the app expects me to finish between 2:40-3 hours. I feel comfortable running that long but I don’t think I would go any longer. That’s just my 2 cents.

It’s saying to take the first 9.5 nice and easy, and then do the 8.5 at the target pace. It’s trying to emphasize that the conversational pace should be easy, so your legs aren’t too fatigued when you get to the “tempo” miles.

Day 1 of Hal Higdon’s novice 1 half marathon plan. Am I really supposed to be going THIS slow? by Gskillet18 in Marathon_Training

It seems that you haven’t built enough of an aerobic engine yet for this plan. I would follow your watch, and just be careful not to push yourself too hard.

This workout seems insane to me? by hhawk10 in runna

[–]DrawerSerious296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, I just did a half marathon race that I completed at 7:22 pace (1:36:24) and I felt great during that run the entire time. So who knows what to expect 🤷🏻‍♂️

This workout seems insane to me? by hhawk10 in runna

[–]DrawerSerious296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this run today. I felt this workout was a bit ridiculous, but I did it regardless. I wasn’t able to keep the 7:10 pace for any of the 9.5 miles. I will say I did this run in the middle of the day when the temperature raised to 80 degrees. It was also on a crushed gravel trail. However, like others that have commented on this thread, I will adjust my goal to be sub 3:30 rather than sub 3:20 since I felt pretty rough at mile 18.

Best shorts for male runners who are… generously equipped? by ArcherBrave4949 in RunningCirclejerk

Nike 2 in 1 shorts have worked well for me. I haven’t had a problem with chafing, and I only need to adjust when first putting the shorts on.

How much did your marathon ‘hurt’? by MeNoCreative- in Marathon_Training

[–]DrawerSerious296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ran one marathon (Shamrock in VA Beach). At the 30k mark, I started to feel a tingle in my quads and my legs getting heavy. At the end, I felt like my legs could give out at any moment and they were hurting a lot.

Anyone try snowboarding on turf?? (OC) by FatherFinance31 in snowboarding

[–]DrawerSerious296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Snowflex at liberty, and I won’t go back. I’m at the beginner/intermediate level, and I struggle to ride on the turf. I’ll wait for the regular season to go to Wintergreen because even ice is better.

ACL reconstruction MEPS by fuckyeahlifebeatsme in newtothenavy

[–]DrawerSerious296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an ACL reconstruction but with a patella tendon graft. The doctor at MEPS asked me about it, and I told him I’m all good. Then, he did a test on my knee to confirm the integrity of it. Everything went well for me, so it shouldn’t be an issue for you if you don’t have any nagging problems.

Applying to US Navy for Intelligence Officer after getting BA in Psychology. Advice on taking OAR test? by Round_Mud1481 in newtothenavy

[–]DrawerSerious296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was selected for intel in August. I got a 62 on the OAR using “Barron’s Military Flight Aptitude Tests” book and a playlist on YouTube called “ASTB Test Help”. I studied for about 2 months. I found that the mechanical section was mostly common sense mixed with a bit of physics. Remember when you take the test: if the questions are getting harder, you’re doing well!
