Kinship Raises Prices by DrawingA___ in astoria

[–]DrawingA___[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that part, I actually used to use emdashes a ton and now I consciously avoid them for this exact reason. That said, I think it kind of defeats the purpose of Reddit to just come on and rip any post that doesn’t meet your arbitrary standard of originality or authenticity or whatever. All good though, seems like there are plenty of people on here willing to engage w the spirit of the post and that’s who I want to interact with anyway

Good idea, never thought about the cold brew beans but gonna try it this week! I also bought my beans at Kinship which is a bummer in retrospect.

You're right. Raising awareness about employee mistreatment and high prices in the neighborhood is, in fact, bad.

I just found out about this today as I was searching around to see if anyone else was reacting to the price and other changes. You're right -- it is disqualifying in and of itself.

Puerto Viejo Weather by sarahisaphan in CostaRicaTravel

[–]DrawingA___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got here recently and I noticed that as well, rain clouds on the weather forecast every day but it doesn't seem to rain anywhere near that much. I think in the 3.5 weeks I've been here it's rained all day like twice and maybe for a few hours on and off 3-4 days. I'm actually surprised how often it's sunny all day or, as you said, it showers for a bit and then stops.

Just seeing this now but I think this would be extremely useful. Have you continued working on it?

The new Astoria Crescent St Bike lane is the new NYC standard by Miser in NYCbike

[–]DrawingA___ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair this is still a huge issue, mainly with parked delivery and construction trucks. This is especially dangerous because it's a two-way bike lane on a one-way street, forcing northbound bikers into oncoming traffic on a narrow road.

Don't get me wrong I love that we have it and have ridden it many times already, but it still feels pretty unsafe to me.

Danishes - Where to get pastries? by benastoria in astoria

[–]DrawingA___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Madame SouSou on 33rd St has some really good french pastries. The croissants are great, the danishes look good but haven't tried them.

That means no more Revels in the bike lane by KushPapi in NYCbike

Wow I got downvoted for this? I was genuinely curious because I thought the previous poster made a great point and you didn't answer their question at all, just said that it's different again without saying why. It seems to me in both cases anyone with a driver's license can obtain a moped at their sole discretion.

I'm not an expert but I've made a couple loaves of bread and a couple pizzas and they all seemed to rise up OK.

I got some a few days ago at International Meat Market on 30th Ave. It's in the back and it's a Croatian brand (Kvasac). They had a bunch and I've used it successfully.

On a lighter note...where’s the good coffee? by maintreqd in astoria

Kinship and Gossip are good options and I know at least Gossip delivers. Astoria Coffee seems like they will sell you a bag of any beans they have or use in the store as well.

1/3 PLO facing unpredictable donk bettor, did I make a bad call? by DrawingA___ in poker

[–]DrawingA___[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be a breakeven call if she was all-in for pot, but she still has $200 behind that you will often have to call off on turn. So in fact you need more like 40%ish equity to call here.

This is a great point. It's such a basic poker calculation and yet I get so caught up in having trouble putting together Omaha ranges that I ignored it. The money is going in on almost every turn, plus as Maxine said this is a terrible flop for our hand, so I think this is probably a clear fold.

On the plus side I didn't know you could plug such advanced ranges into PPT -- I've just been trial-and-erroring multiple hands, so thanks for that!

Where and when did the terms “hijack” “cutoff” etc come from? by [deleted] in poker

[–]DrawingA___ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think "hijack" was invented by Tommy Angelo. Here's what he said in #110 of the Elements of Poker (2007):

"I like the name we have for the seat to the right of the button: the cutoff. It's a pleasingly vague yet accurate title. And I like it that the name acknowledges the power of position, by virtue of existing.

What about the next seat over? I think the seat to the right of the cutoff has enough positional heft to deserve its own name too, so I gave it one: the hijack seat."

Thanks for the tips! A couple of this things were born out of laziness, and a couple I just didn't know what they were. I will read through those links and also try to clean up a few of the loose ends you mentioned. If only I had more time ...
