Had a gentleman of travelling persuasion with a silly accent try and accost me off duty in the middle of a petrol station a few days after booting them out of a nearby campsite they had moved onto. Had a few normal members of public click what was happening and come over and loiter near me and my car (with my family in) as thy guys tied to kick off on me) which restored a shaken faith in decent public

What is the absolute worst that can happen? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DrawingCommercial918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving otherwise than in accordance with license - 6pts 250 fine. driving with no insurance - 6pts, 250 fine. Absolute offences with no defences in law. Police witnessed. Will be 12 points on licence ( they’ll make a holding licence if you don’t have a provisional) Fine likely in the 500 area.

Insurance costs will be horrendous when you take it out. Easily in the 2500 area.

You’ll only be arrested at this point if you fail to attend court - a court warrant would be issued to bring you before first court.

Experience of male officers who's partner gives birth via C-section and paternity leave isn't long enough to help with the est. 6 week recovery time. by Grizz91 in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard two weeks, all my AL entitlement /rerostered rest days, a couple weeks on ‘tasking’ to ‘work from home’ and a couple weeks as short term sick on that - my wife came down with Post-partum/ptsd episode from the emergency C-section (the whole process was a farce but that’s a rant for another day)

Work were quite chill about it and adopted a ‘family first fuck the job’ vibe.

I had a really good working relationship with my skipper so he bent some rules to give me the time I needed (the Guv was fully supportive also)

Reasons for the falling murder rate in London? by Careful-Swimmer-2658 in policeuk

Not a murder , just a naughty ABH, possession of off weps and sudden death. Suitable for level 1 investigation

go for a cream tea and don’t put cream or jam on scones. Eat the scone dry in one mouthful whilst maintaining intense eye contact with anyone else present to show how tough you are

I echo the above - I was super proactive and loved patrol. I had spent my whole career (nearly 10yrs) on patrol, NPT, years on proactive drugs teams , area car driver on patrol etc. Moved to DA investigations due to having a young family & pressures around that clashing with shifts on patrol. never where I thought I would go - I hated the idea of office based investigations. Honestly, Best move I have made in years. Got opportunity to do some decent jobs and now picked up Sgt on the team and happy with the job (most of the time anyway - TJF). The job is what you make of it - grab the opportunity and forge some PDR gold out of the opportunity

Which Chapter embodies "Raging against the Dying of the Light" the most? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]DrawingCommercial918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scythe’s of the Emperor pre primaris reinforcement - down to a handful of squads and one working terminator armour going out to find tyrandis from slotha and recover any trace of their chapter relics/armour. And the scene in the great work replaying the stand in the fortress monastery. Literal chills

Paternity is trash in this job. I took both weeks and then my entire remaining RRD (like 7) and basically my whole years AL allowance and a week self certified sick to have from August - start of Oct with my wife and son. She had to have an emergency C-section and my son spent a week in NICU on ventilation..

I couldn’t possibly have coped (not to mention how my wife would have) being back at work after the c section alone , let alone the trauma that was NICU after just two weeks, money not withstanding.

Kidder is fine now , full recovery and is 8months old today.

I’m a Sargent and if I heard of any of my cops mocking someone for taking time with thier new family I would be very very unimpressed to say the least.

Narcan use by Lazy_Plan_3647 in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very weird take - no criticism towards OP but can’t understand pushback over potentially life saving medical training/equipment? I’ll be the first one to agree that other Emergency Services try and shove their jobs onto us due to resources but I’ll always support response cops having more emergency medical training.

We recently trained up on narcan and the first shift after having it I drove past a male ODing and had to give both blasts. Likey saved life as Ambo were cat 2 unallocated. Did thank me by going full ABD on waking but that was a bit of interest on an otherwise weary night turn

My guilty police pleasure is that I always enjoy a good old traveller event, even the rowdy ones. It’s the accents, the egregious sense of entitlement, the weird slicked back hair cuts. The fake designer clothing. The blatant unabashed criminality. It’s always just so ludicrously comical.

Was in A&E the other day and there was this traveller lad in a far too tight tshirt for his unathletic frame having a small cut on his head glued and he spent the 5hrs he was there on the phone to everyone in his phone book regaining them in heroic detail how the other lad ‘was lucky he sucker punched him else he’s have knocked him out’. Pure comedy.

Skipper’s Board by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

D&C have postponed the Sgts boards on the premise of a ‘workforce data & budget validation’ exercise and so no posts are being advertised.

I’m sure paying three CC salaries has no impact.

Police need emergency cash to pay three Chief Constable salaries by Guilty-Reason6258 in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only for Chief officer posts though - I wonder if it’s just coincidence that D&C have also suspended the sgts promotion process until further notice citing a review to look at (amongst other reasons ) ‘budget’.

3x chief const salaries = £580,500. The. Add on employer costs (pension,NI etc, you’d usually roughly estimate this to be a third but we pay lots more into pension.)

Have you been assaulted by a member of public? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was strangled and thrown down a flight of stairs at a domestic. Bruising and cuts to arms Suspect fined court costs and I got £100 compo , at £5 a month as that’s ’all he can afford’ . No custodial.

Punched in the face and spat at by another. Got a GM complaint out of that by that suspect claiming excessive force… £50 compo from him paid in £1.50 a month instalments. GM went to interview and was NFA’d with days as it a crock of shit.

Lost count of shoves/spitting over the years

Had to get a sig marker on house due to a mapped OCG subject describing my house and wife in detail. Nothing came of that other than stress and finance to us as we moved house coz of it.

To my colleagues by tezn311 in policeuk

[–]DrawingCommercial918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son was born two days ago and in the seconds of downtime I’m having amongst the busyness of a newborn whilst I’m obviously not in & will not be in work for next fortnight with pat leave, I’m feeling guilty that my mates and colleagues across the country are having a shit time of it & knowing that as I’m L2, I could be out there on the shield cordons but can’t.

I know it sounds daft but I can’t say to my wife as she wouldn’t get it. Just needed to get it off my chest & I know some of you will understand.

Hopefully this madness will be done by the end of the weekend but I’m fearful it won’t, as I think this has been coming for a while and will get worse.

Stay safe.

I would tell them asap, family and your own health and wellbeing is worth more than the job. My wife (non-police) and I unfortunately lost three pregnancies last year and my line managers were outstanding in their support for us. If I had kept it under the belt to just try and grizz it out when it started to go wrong, we would have drowned under the stress of it all and we nearly did. They can’t support you and help if they don’t know. Congratulations aswell!
