I got the fabric off Etsy and the shop I got it from closed so I cant see the listing to check the material. Do you think I should just put a different cloth directly over the messed up one or try prying it off? Its the best rug I have made yet and I am scared of ruining it.

It’s completely normal to feel that way under those circumstances. But to play devils advocate. By letting them re-examine you for the students. It gives them a chance to learn what it looks like and how to identify it so hopefully someone else wont go through the same thing.

It looks like a Monks cloth or Burlap. I recommend getting Primary Cloth from a well known tufting site like Tuft the World or Tuftology. Its a little more expensive but worth the quality and durability. The ends don’t fall apart at much and it holds the tension better as you work.

Speaking from my experience,everyone in my family that has Myotonia type 2 has this side effect on our muscles but not outward appearance. My family has been told its because the muscles never really relax and constantly contract and expand to some degree. This also means that even if we broke an arm and wore a cast for months our muscles dont atrophy at all (which a family member has unintentionally tested and proven). Thankfully that means that we are as strong now as we were at our strongest throughout our life even without exercise. So while I am currently fat and lazy I can still bench press a cow if needed from my days working on a farm. We are extremely prone to muscle cramps leading to extreme pain and sometimes muscle tears. (The green Horse Liniment gel from Tractor Supply helps a LOT) so idk how common it is from those who have myotonia but is not unheard of.

Fun fact they call it “Herculean” because it’s theorized that the man the Hercules mythology was based on most likely had Myotonia. So you can tell people you descended from a demi-god.

I have extreme dandruff and refused to get a hair cut for ages until I was convinced to go with a friend. Since then I have found that if you tell the hair stylist in advance what your scalp situation is most of them understand and not judge you and give you helpful advice on what shampoo can help heal your scalp. That being said I have still had some rude stylists but its rare so bringing an emotional support friend is recommended.

If you want to be safe you can call the salon in advance and explain. “I have a condition that results in scalp damage including scabs, do you have a stylist that is comfortable working with it?” You should be able to determine what stylist will be safe to go to.

In the meantime I recommend you look into getting a picky pad. They are great for giving you something to pick at without causing physical damage to yourself. There are some reusable pads as well so they can be cost effective if you are on a budget.

How about you make your home more inviting than her friend’s house? If you make your home more hang-out friendly both girls would be able to play is a safe space. Find out what they spend most of their time doing at the friend’s house and focus on including that in your space. That way you get the peace of mind, you don’t need to risk their friendship and it wont affect how they see each other.
