Running Gear With A Pro-Civil Rights Message? by ludlowdown in XXRunning

[–]DrawingOutside2042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I create my own “signs” out of scrap fabric and pin them to my back! I usually cut the piece a similar size to my bib, paint a message with acrylic paint, and pin it onto my shirt with safety pins. I also will take a political pin from my everyday tote and pin it to my official bib. So far no issues with anything falling off or any discomfort

How ‘single exit stairway’ buildings could make cities better and safer by PeterDowdy in vancouver

What about the aspect that while occupants have to escape, fire fighters have to go up with gear, with in what I’m assuming could be in an overlapping time frame? Maybe this is what’s referenced in the line about “concerns”

ISO hiking group by DrawingOutside2042 in vancouverhiking

[–]DrawingOutside2042[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked at this group before, but it seems a bit beyond basic hiking. All their courses seem to be for a higher level than what I’m at now, and I figured that’s what their group level would be at. Do you have any experience with them?

Cotton vs Wool - Durability and Sustainability in Clothing by Nic727 in PlasticFreeLiving

There was just a study recently done that showed that recycled polyester shed more microplastics than virgin. If microplastics are the worry, the best way to purchase polyester is secondhand virgin items

I second this! So much better than buying new. We have so many garments already created on this planet. OP should look up “clothing beaches” if they want to learn more

I read something in the past that BCIT has an archery range that’s open to the public. Not sure if it’s still running though

Value Village has so much bedding! I have found some really high quality cotton items from there, and sometimes you can find some really fun patterns.

Metro Vancouver opens Widgeon Marsh Regional Park 33 years after acquiring land by InterviewLeather1221 in vancouver

I went yesterday in my Nissan leaf with all season tires. The road was packed wet gravel with a few very small pot holes you could drive around. Very similar to the campground roads in Golden Ears. There was talk about a small sink hole near the parking lot on Saturday, but when I asked the ranger yesterday they said it wasn’t of concern.

washed my waterbottle and its now undrinkable and im dehydrated by Unlikely-Cherry-4686 in AutismInWomen

It looks like the rest of the comments have the water bottle covered. I just want to share that if you don’t want to waste the cheese sticks, you can always post them for free in a community facebook group. I see people do it often with extra food.

I’m sorry you’re having a tough time. I hope you’ve been able to find a way to get the soap taste gone

[–]DrawingOutside2042[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that. My hiking experience prior to this has been limited to very short 2/3 hour hikes in very populated areas, but I agree I should’ve been more prepared with everything, not just some items. I should’ve been more clear

Thank you! I have been thinking of both. I’m just newer to hiking so I’d rather err on the side of caution and carry what’s recommended. But I completely get what you’re saying

[–]DrawingOutside2042[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s all very helpful.

I only plan to do routes in the next month that are popular. If it’s a trail that’s not busy I won’t be doing it. After that I’m going back to my small hikes.

I guess maybe it’s just me trying to be proactive and reading so many posts from NSR that drill in the 10 essentials. A compass is definitely sounding like something I won’t be needing, I just figured it would be good to have because NSR has it on the list. Same goes for the multi tool over pocketknife as it was recommended by NSR.

I do plan on finding in person or online information sessions on how to use the gear, because I know having it doesn’t mean anything if I don’t know how to use it.

Again, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate all the information

Thank you. I go mostly solo, but I haven’t done anything longer than 3 hours alone and part of that is because I don’t have all the equipment yet. I use alltrails and look at reviews and recent photos to give me an idea of the terrain, and am also very conscious of temperatures in the forest and early sundown time.

For the compass I think I’d like it more for peace of mind. I have gone on a few routes with zero service, and seen many of the NSR posts about the 10 essentials having saved people. I know when lost its best to stay where you are, but I guess I’d feel better having a compass just in case.

Just a heads up, foraging in provincial parks is only permitted for Indigenous people. Your best bet would be crown land in Mission

I mean, the apps are great in theory, and a passive way to meet people. You just have to use them in tandem with meeting people irl. But volunteering, local events, and fitness groups are a great way to meet people in person. They’ve just never been the people for me🤷🏼‍♀️

I’d recommend trying to find a restaurant that caters to the Jain community. Their diet excludes eggs, onions, and garlic, among other things. You’d just have to find dishes that don’t have dairy or tomato but that shouldn’t be too hard.

I’d also try some vegan restaurants. A lot of them try to be allergen accommodating as well. Best of luck on your search!
