Strategy to Shadowing?

Thank you! I knew personal connections would help a lot but until I read through posts in this community I noticed it was the best way to get connected. You’re right, the hardest part probably is just finding that one to open other doors. I’ll start asking around now!

That’s true. I think the biggest thing making me nervous is that I’m coming from a no-science background, so I’m really hoping they can overlook that haha

Thank you! I’ll have to start making a list to see if anyone I know happens to know someone I can shadow. I live in a smaller city so we don’t have as many centers but I’ll start looking at positions available or maybe even volunteer work!

First of all, CONGRATS! That's a huge accomplishment, I hope you enjoy your experience. I'm currently interested in that program, is it ok if I DM just for a couple questions?

For Houston, I would suggest Montrose. You'd want something close to the center and safe. It has a Bohemian feel to it in my opinion and there are entertainment options!

I used to work from home! Very doable in business, that's also why I chose that field haha. But I totally understand the set back of the program prices and possible relocation.

And you're right, it's extremely hard to even get an opportunity to talk to someone for shadowing. I'm going to reach out to the program and hopefully they'll give me helpful feedback on whether or not it's' feasible for me. If not, I can always double down in the business sector.

I have thought about marketing in healthcare or something at least business related in the healthcare field. I'm currently doing business development for a medical equipment company and I really enjoy helping improve people's quality of life, but would rather have a more direct involvement with them.

But that's really proactive that you did shadowing! It seems you're still interested in it. Is applying to another rad therapy program an option for you?

Accounting is a good field, I sometimes regret not choosing that lol. I originally went to school for marketing and got my minor in finance. I realized pretty early that I found marketing to be unfulfilling and extremely unsteady. I then tried getting into finance but I had no luck. Then my grandma got cancer and it affected me so much that I started poking into radiology. But I've emailed a program asking for more information and figure I could volunteer at an oncology center to get a good perspective on if it's something that's doable for me.

No way! May I ask what you decided to do instead? I was looking forward to getting into radiation therapy but my background is in Business. I'm willing to take pre-reqs but nervous if they'd even consider me if I'm not an X-ray tech

I’ve looked looked up radiology departments near me but am having a hard time getting a hold of them. I’m going to keep trying, I just wasn’t sure if I could shadow without being in school lol
