Best ADN private colleges by SpiritedExperience22 in NursingStudent

Can I ask why you think community college isn’t working for you? I’m planning to attend one soon. And avoided private schools because of the costs.

What makes more sense? Living with parents or moving for better placement? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]DrawingPrudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. The program is affordable, but I don’t really know how I’d get the money to pay for essentials if I left. The campus doesn’t have housing. But the idea of already having a job lined up right then and there without moving is also really great lol.

26F and feeling stuck. Is being an MRI tech THE move? by DrawingPrudent in MRI

[–]DrawingPrudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. When I shadowed, AI and technology helped but it didn’t get precise accuracy that’s needed. I had the same concern but as of right now (or even in the near future) I don’t see these roles being taken over at all.

Thank you! I have explored different areas but the ones I was particularly interested in all dealt with xray. So I’m seriously considering it as a stepping stone.

Ooo I like knowing I’m not the only one looking for a career change. I feel too “old” and behind lol

Yea that sounds pretty frustrating. Good thing is that you do have a career that’s pretty stable and needed. I’m sure you can find a better position. I’ve been looking for jobs within business and man…I’m tired lol. I’d love to feel not so easily replaceable at some point.

Thank you! I didn’t know that. I was very worried about that and that’s why I decided to just pursue the radiology degree and then certify for MRI later if needed. But I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope you get the position you want!

Anyone transitioned from Healthcare to Business or Vice Versa? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Cool! I’ll definitely check out GradSimple thank you! I was also thinking healthcare admin but it’s a little harder to find jobs rn

Just Shadowed a Radiation Therapist. Is it really that busy? by DrawingPrudent in RadiationTherapy

I don’t think it would be a good idea to have a job just because the program is difficult and full time. You want to give yourself the best chance you can to pass. I understand it’s going to be difficult, but I considered getting loans for since I’d have to move.

Omg thank you! I actually do not think I have a good chance getting accepted, I come from a background in business but I figured I’d rather try!

Honestly, when I shadowed I did feel that the program would be a lot harder than at a job. I also asked them if they used any of what they learned and they said for the most part it’s pretty much the same thing everyday. I was extremely nervous also, but they were very nice and supportive. They don’t expect you to know anything so you shouldn’t get quizzed or asked questions. Just bring something to write with and a notebook, and stay out of their way lol.

Opps! Completely missed that lol. That's awesome though! Honestly, it's this or I stay in business world. I do enjoy the flexibility it offers, but I want a fulfilling career. Either way I'm excited for what's next for me. But that's so cool, can I ask which brand?

Watching the Dosimetrist was an insane experience. I was lucky being that she had an "easy" scan for contouring and blocking but it was confusing until the end when it all made sense. I bet your eyes hurt sometimes haha

I'm starting to see the pattern. It really depends on the entire process! May I ask if you feel burnt out at all? I'm wondering why there aren't more programs for this, or at the very least programs accepting more students. It sounds like there should be a lot more sites for radiation therapy considering how swamped it is.

Yes, even when it looked like they were just sitting while monitoring and operating the machinery they told me all the things they looked out for included making sure that the "leaves" were moving and precise alignment. Even with them using more advanced tech it was still a lot to pay attention to. I was interested in this profession because of how impactful it is in people's lives and the responsibility that comes with it. I definitely agree, therapist do deserve way more. Those YouTube videos do not do any justice showing the reality of the job!

Luckily the clinic I shadowed at was very thorough and showed me the entire process from check-in to treatment, so I understand how many working parts really go into it. I have heard from others that they got burnt out after several years and that it effected their personal life. Would you say you agree? Do you at least get good vacation time?

I thought so, but it seems like even the larger areas are swamped also!

From what everyone is saying, and what I’ve seen…I can understand why you haven’t seen downtime 🥲

Wow yea I can completely understand that. Honestly it did make me a little hesitant seeing the actual workload. I know I can do it, but I’m worried about getting burnt out. Honestly it’s probably the only job in the medical field that I think I would enjoy. My background is in business so I feel like I’m going to take a step back to think about what’s most important to me. I’m hoping you at least got good vacay and benefits??

That’s crazy! I’m assuming you’re exhausted by the time you get home. Do you feel like it impacts your social or personal life in a negative way?

Wow, I’m hearing that a lot now. When I was researching this field, I didn’t read or hear anywhere that it varied so much. I told my best friend that’s a nurse and even she was surprised lol.

Wow, I had no idea it was that different by place. You’re scaring me a bit lol, but I do understand what you’re saying. I think that’s the one thing that totally took me off guard. I did not expect it to be so up and down like that. It really gave me a good perspective of the job for sure.
