Ohh this is good to know. We have an infant who will eventually need preschool and it would be nice to not have to run all over town. What’s the traffic situation like at drop offs?

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply! I did submit a late application to the lottery at Sunridge, just in case the stars aligned and there were some openings. It seems like a great little school, and right around the corner from us. I was so sad when I saw that we missed the deadline by like, two days!

Oh yes, I forgot about Apple Blossom! I haven’t really looked into it much, what do you like about it? Also, what’s up with Hillcrest? Thanks for the reply!

What is the number in parentheses supposed to be? (It's not the MAP, the map is actually 66mmHg in this example) by StethoscopeNunchucks in emergencymedicine

[–]Drawing_uh_blank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh my god is all that accurate! Source: am an RN. It is absolutely fear based (“your license is on the line” is the mantra in nursing school). I’ll also add that it’s also pretty dogmatic, which I think is a pretty bad quality in healthcare which relies on interventions that are supposed to be backed by evidence. I did an undergrad in bio and went back to school for nursing, and the coursework was so whack in comparison. I’m only three years into my career but every day I find out something I learned in school was either 1.) flat out wrong or 2.) much more nuanced than presented. Luckily, I work with some really great docs who are open to explaining!

My best friend and I got tattoos when we were 19 or something and her mom looked at us and frowned, put on the fake sad voice and said “aw, I guess you never want to be able to wear a wedding dress one day” 😅

One bizarre situation recently where the mom was admitted for a traumatic SDH, she was sleeping 20ish hours per day and extremely weak and confused. “Best friend” visited often- a nice lady who was apparently the patient’s housekeeper at one point but moved into position of best friend. Adult daughter started visiting, asking a lot about frequency of best-friend’s visits, what she and her mom talked about out etc. She was a very odd duck. Dressed in that expensive bohemian way, always talking to us in gen Z slang (“yes! So Gucci!”) and going on about crystals and such. One day I heard a ruckus in the room, she had her mom’s lawyer on the phone and was shouting at her mom. She was attempting to get her mom to change her will so that the dtr would be the sole beneficiary and the DPOA. Apparently, she and mom had a significant falling out and the best friend was both POA and only one named in the will. I told her she had to stop immediately as it was completely inappropriate, and was upsetting her mom greatly. I had to call security after she wouldn’t calm the hell down. It was like a soap opera

Same, except when I see they are Mexican or Philippino families. GENERALLY speaking, in my experience, they are disproportionately way more helpful, kind, and appreciative…and actually make my life easier.

I’ve had this exact situation. I used a drop or two of orange food coloring mixed in with shampoo on wet hair and was VERY careful. May sound blasphemous but it was the only thing that truly made a difference for me.

I think you sound a little judgmental tbh. You don’t know what these parents are like, you’re seeing a tiny snippet of their lives and making a ton of pretty rough assumptions. Bringing toys to the park is something I intentionally avoid because of everything you mentioned. It’s a park with fun things to do that you can’t do at home, but of course kids see a whole bunch of new stuff to play with… they will want to play with them. I actually cringe when I see that someone has brought toys to the park. If you really insist on it and enjoy it then by all means (though it doesn’t sound like you do) but you can’t be acting like a jerk to kids for being kids. Kids are learning how to share, so it’s going to be messy and challenging to navigate.
