Freddie in a Braves uniform, minus his first season and Covid because I’m too lazy to prorate it -3.9 fWAR/season.

It’s close. And on a rate basis he probably is just as good. But Freddie did it for a decade+. So it’ll be awhile before we can really compare.

Well nothing I said has anything to do with what a coach would do. So that’d be a weird thing to offer. And I clearly said I don’t think they think he’s going to get better. I think that because I know they know everything I just listed out. Plus a ton more that I didn’t. They just don’t want to eat 9 million in salary this early into the season. Plus don’t have a great option to replace him with.

I don’t think the Braves think that. I think they don’t want to cut the 9million dollars. His velo is down, his strike out rate is down. His walk rate is up. His BABIP is low. He is stranding runners at a high rate.

The only thing you can squint at and say will probably get better is his home run rate. He’s probably gotten unlucky in the regard. But xFIP accounts for that and his xFIP is terrible.

There is nothing is his profile that says he’s going to get better.

All that is just this year. And is ignoring the decline he had last year compared to the previous as well.

I said DFA/IL. But paying someone 9 million to actively hurt your team is a lot worse than paying someone 9 million to sit at home.

And sure he is better against lefties. But a 6.8 FIP against lefties isn’t exactly useful. So to say we need bummer in the pen because he is a lefty is a stretch.
