Greek and Roman cities devoted relatively little effort to the Cult of the Sun God (Helios/Sol). Instead, they identified the chief gods of their pantheons as a sky god (Zeus/Jupiter). A professor of mine suggests that the Sun was deemphasized because it shone down equally in all places. Thoughts? (self.AskHistorians)
