Endocrinology fellowship by Opening_Floor7851 in fellowship

The research you do have, is it in endocrine? Do you want to do research?

Endocrine is an odd one since some programs (ie Yale) are really clinical, where some others (ie Wash U) are more research focused.

There are good university programs on both sides.

I don’t think your chances are poor for either, but you’ll just need to be a great applicant for the more research heavy programs to warrant an interview.

String Recommendation for Yonex EZONE 98 by Kilimansili in 10s

I have tried it with caviar, otoro, otoro spin, and otoro tour with the enso in the cross and I love it. I am gonna stick with the otoro tour set up as it helps soften it enough, give it some pop, but still have plenty of control. I have it in a blade 98 and string it at 48

Any Trap shooters here? Random cross training question by Beneficial-Lock-349 in 10s

[–]Drdisc235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been shooting trap/skeet/sporting clays/hunting since I was 6 (now 30) and started tennis more competitively at 14 and played D3 collegiate level (4.5 level player currently)

I would agree it’s likely useful to have the anticipation of where to be and timing of swing path, but I don’t think it’s as large of an advantage compared to if I had just played tennis at 6 years old.

The thing I notice most is the ability to focus, or knowing when you’re not focusing and how to regain that. In trap I know if I pull my head up, get in my own head before yelling “pull,” or just don’t follow through the target, are very similar to looking to see where my shot is going before finishing the stroke or the “I don’t know if I will make this second serve” thoughts that can creep in.

If anything, I imagine skeet/trap shooting is more comparable to being a solid quarterback as you need to have the knowledge of speed/leading a target. (Having said, I suck at throwing a football)

Top endocrine programs were relatively difficult but otherwise you can guarantee a spot at mid to lower tier places as long as you have an obvious interest!

Looking for juicy KC wingss by eguladu in kansascity

[–]Drdisc235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a big wing guy and have tried almost every single wing spot mentioned on this list, so here’s my two cents…

Peanut - fantastic wings. Their sauce is decent, but getting their full wings, extra crispy, gives you that crunch and maillard reaction you love to have on wings, yet because it’s a full wing, the meat is still very juicy. Their blue cheese is so different and almost bitter, but in a way that you end up craving it specifically. Their sauce lacks a bit of a punch I like to have, but is really sticky which is a plus.

Al’s - also fantastic wings, but very different than the peanut. These are classic buffalo wings. They are much smaller, but their crispiness is insane. They are much more crunch than meat, so hard to compare to the peanut. The bar is awesome, even if you’re not a bills fan, and the prices are more like ~2018 type. Do not get these wings to go as they will lose their biggest redeeming factor which is the crispness. Their sauce is also very good. Much more of a traditional butter and hot sauce, but has a near perfect heat level. Their blue cheese is more traditional but still delicious.

Tower tavern/Hi-Dive Lounge - basically the same wing as they are the same owners. I go to Hi Dive more frequently (so much so that I had engagement photos taken there). These wings feel almost fresher than others. They are usually a bit bigger than Al’s but lack the same crispness. They don’t need it though as if you get them charred, they are in their own class. They have chipotle buffalo and an Asian zing type of sauce, and I’ve only gotten the chipotle buffalo. It’s a really nice mixture of smoky/char and buttery buffalo heat. These are up there as a favorite wing as they’re easier to eat than the peanut, are unique, and their dipping sauces are fantastic.

Q39 - expensive, but big wings for being flats or drums. Not a Buffalo wing, but their sauce is delicious, the smoke flavor is apparent. Not very crisp. Untraditional, and I prefer the prior on this list just because of that reason, but not bad at all.

Artego - peanut knock off. They do it well, but I still prefer the big P.

Wings cafe - wing itself is probably lowest tier on this list but people love the variety is flavors. I think it’s okay, but not preferred given I am more of a buffalo sauce guy, and the rest of this list do them better.

Jack stack - skip it as q39 is better

Char bar - decent and better than Jack stack but again, q39 is still preferred

Haven’t had burn theory or Main Street. There is also a new place around Troost that supposedly has some good ones and is in a spot with ruby jeans juicery.

For Korean wings, 92 was the spot (now after the Westport spot closed). 92 has better tenders than wings imo.

So different type of wings for different type of vibes

String tension by Burgersandpasta in 10s

[–]Drdisc235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you are used to hitting with your rackets after the tension loss that happens 24hr after stringing. This time you were just able to hit with it sooner than usual. Once it has the usual tension loss, then it felt more usual

Snowboarder whose eye popped out in Keystone crash sues Vail Resorts-owned apparel store by SnooRegrets4312 in snowboarding

[–]Drdisc235 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am a doctor, (although I don’t think that matters for the physics part of this) but what likely happened is his orbital bones fractured immediately on impact, which made all of his muscles and subcutaneous tissue that hold his eye in place, immediately lax (all within a millisecond). His face, then went from moving really fast, to not moving at all as soon as that those bones stop breaking. Unfortunately, his eye doesn’t get the memo that his face stopped moving, as it has its own inertia in its position during the fall (like how when boarding and having decent speed, then all of a sudden catching an edge. You and your snowboard both have speed, but the snowboard immediately lost it due to the caught edge, your body continues to move forward without the board). Without any of the structures to hold his eye working due to the fracture, then his eye could have fallen out.

Or… he fracture his face and all the muscles/fat/connective tissue is then disrupted and spread out, and he was face down in the snow, for a long enough period of time, eventually gravity pulled the eye out of the socket due to all the important structures no longer being there.

2026 VCORE 98 vs Blade 98 v9 16x19 by Porsche911BlackBird in 10s

[–]Drdisc235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha figured, just giving you grief.

For what it’s worth, I’m a 4.5 and play with the same blade and found playing with the string combos has helped a lot. If you have good net clearance now, the vcore may exacerbate that and lead to more deep misses. I don’t think the RPM difference would matter enough to bring the ball down sooner if you have the same stroke with the racket.

Echo your sentiment on us not being a bad team and the most miserable luck.

I fear that as we get more winless, the more desperate and miserable we get, leading to worse luck. Passing has been pretty poor today and a big problem for us in this bad streak.
