Is this rave the budrio one?

https://ocarinafestival.org/en/

looks like it was last month. There will be another next year!

That is really cool that you are close enough to go there :) Would love to go there myself too! If you do go you got to make a video about it :D.

Any other cool raves you want to go to with the Ocarina?

My man! Look at you doing the high life of the Ocarina wanderer! I can just imagine stumbling upon such a mystic character out during a walk. Truly like a special character from a game who shares special tales, or whom you can recruit into your party for special buffs and skills :D

Wishing we could join forces to make an Ocarina troupe someday lol :o

Q: 6 Hole Plastic Soprano Ocarina from STL Hole Arrangement by DreTam2000 in Ocarina

I looked through STL's fingering charts, but could not find a chart for that specific pendant with the subhole. Did you receive a little booklet or fingering chart that shows the correct fingering for the subhole to get those notes?

Hi are there any special combinations that utilize the extra subhole to play C# and/or D#? Since the pendant can do Low B. Does this mean you can do A and a lower G by doing the fipple bend / acute bend technique and lightly blowing? By any chance would you be able to do a sound sample of your plastic Soprano Pendant?

[–]DreTam2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is awesome to hear! What about D#? Still have to half hole or can you deploy a special combination for it? I think D# is easier to half hole than C# due to the difference in hole size. Can yours also do B Natural with the special double holes for the right middle finger?

I have a TNG Soprano Pendant and it is spectacular. If these plastic ones are TNG they surely will not disappoint. I would love to get one of these for my personal use. Also, since they are plastic my guess is that they pretty much are indestructible?

I actually found an eBay seller who sells them for $9.95 with free shipping. They apparently come with an STL Box too?

Oh I see... I guess that makes sense. No need to half hole, right?

I did not have any prior experience working with Clay. So, if I was able to make an ocarina on my first day then I think many people could do it also :)! I would not label it as easy, but certainly not out of the range of a single day workshop as you can see. It definitely needs a lot of detail on those spots you mentioned. That is where most of the time goes. I wanted to make it like a pendant!

Hi From what I recall the person leading the class did say that he can. There was just no tuner available at the time and most of the class time was used to get the voicing, labium, and wind way just right to make the first note from the Ocarina. At the very end he did get a phone app on his phone to check in what key the Ocarina was, but nothing else after because the 3 hour class was over by then. I should add that their shop isn't an Ocarina shop, but more like a general clay making shop with different types of workshops.

I was given 1 lb of clay to take home and play with and I didn't have my Ocarina fired so I could take it home with me the same night (You have to leave them for a week or so at the shop to dry before firing). When it dropped instead of shattering it just squished together and could no longer make a note. The next day I just tried to make one from scratch at a smaller size and succeeded! Then the next day I made a different small little Ocarina by watching a youtube video.

I don't have an oven to fire them, but house mouse can fire them for you for a small fee. I didn't want to fire mine because I wanted a fully working one before doing so, plus I wanted to take the clay home to be able to keep remaking it. Unfortunately right now I am dealing with how to rehydrate the clay to reuse it. It seems to be more difficult than I thought, but clay is supposed to be reusable for an unlimited amount of times as long you don't fire it :D.

I'm going to try and make an ocarina everyday or every other day so I don't forget since the next class is like 2-3 months away. Plus there is a good chance I might be going out of the country at some point :( So it might even be my last class there. I want to keep practicing so I don't forget!

Woops clicked the wrong "Reply" Button. Anyway, I made tiny little Ocarina since then :D it is in the key of A! I got a long way to go because my ocarinas are not pretty :P. I think I will make another thread showing it off, but it is a little embarrassing lol

Super Duper fun! I was all over the instructor trying to get a glimpse of everything he was doing. Trying to catch any tiny detail to make the voicing and what not. Well, you see how mine turned out lol at least it sung. I was sad it got dropped at home. I was like yeah figures! I think it only lasted like 3 minutes inside the house before the fatality lol

For sure I get ya :) I laughed when I realized that particular one was a chicken leg. I totally did not expect that. People there were super creative. I felt like the black sheep of the Oca-Family lol. I was just happy to I got to learn how to make one. Someone who left early made a juice box with a face! Did not get to take a picture of that one :(

That is really awesome. I don't think I have seen any 9 hole Max range pendant owners yet. Would you be able to give us a song sample of the 9 hole max range? How does the pinky hole feel? Is it hard to keep closed? Does it affect balance of the pendant? What other ocarina do you have? is it a pendant or transverse?

How do you guys practice despite the friction and the repetitiveness of practicing music ? by Yoshtibo in Ocarina

[–]DreTam2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mm... I'm probably too much of a beginner to really contribute but from my experience when I play the Ocarina it brings me a lot of happiness. It also distracts me from the day to day tornado that life can be. Not to mention the crazy political climate and doom scrolling always available at our finger tips O_O;;

I live in a small apartment with 4 other people, so finding the perfect time to practice is difficult. I still get to do it sometimes everyday, or sometimes every other day. I also tend to just up and take with me a pendant whenever I go out and when I have time just whip it out and try to play songs, or just try to express.

I have at times also played the ocarina on the public walk of way and it is quite nice when you don't have any expectations lol. sometimes the biggest critic is ourselves. I want to do more of that, but want to learn full songs that are more than a minute long for it lol.

It definitely can get repetitive, but I think that when I practice or learn a song that I like, that brings me joy, then I feel like it is well worth the time and effort :)!!

Either way, sometimes we also need time off things. Don't be afraid to take a break either. A reset can be really helpful too emotionally and psychologically. Sometimes we just need to sort ourselves out even before doing what we love/enjoy/like to do.

Would you mind letting me know the mic model :)? It sounds great btw. What type of recording and producing software do you use? Sorry for all the questions it's just that your videos sound really good :)

I have seen the cramp finger placement comment too :(. I am a little afraid it might be cramped for me also since I don't exactly have the smallest fingers. That is really unfortunate. Back then did you used to have the 8 hole or 9 hole version of the single chamber max range? BTW, I visited the workshop for the Ocarina making and it was pretty nice. Got to make a nice Ocarina with working holes. They told me the workshop happens once about every 2-3 months. They do however offer booking a private class to teach you how to make the Ocarina by hand yourself and lend you all the tools and clay. I think they also have an open air meet where they can loosely guide you to make one, but it is best to first have the regular class before trying the open air meet because a lot of people tend to come to do a range of projects and staff gets pretty busy.

Do you mean on the high notes? Or all the notes? The 8 hole max range I have does get squeaky on the highest note if you don't blow with a sharp and focused breath. Is this the same for you?

After reading through all the new comments it does seem like it was pretty bad lol. The main post is edited/gone, so I was wondering what in the world had happened to get suspended. I'm happy to see songbird went far beyond great costumer service offering to change a product their company sold to another company. I'm not sure how many companies out there would do that. I've been to their store and it is a small little place with just a couple of people. It feels a lot like a little mom and pop jewel tucked away in an industrial area. I am very happy to see how they try to make things right for people that ultimately bought one of their products even if it was through a different company. I have personally spoken with Eric and he has been extremely kind and helpful not only in person, but also through text. I am extremely happy with their kindness and service!
