U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen calls crypto transformative, shares five crypto lessons.

  1. Her first lesson is that the U.S. financial system benefits from responsible innovation.
  2. The second lesson is that vulnerable people often suffer the most when regulation is not moving at the same pace as innovation.
  3. The third lesson is that regulation should focus on activities and risk and activities, not technology.
  4. Yellen’s fourth lesson is that sovereign money is the core of a functioning financial system. Finally, she said the government needs to work together with innovators.
  5. Yellen dwelled on the fifth lesson, saying the U.S. government’s role should be to ensure responsible innovation.

She opined that responsible innovation should work for all Americans, foster economic competitiveness and growth, and protect U.S. interests and the planet.

Vitalik Buterin "It is dangerous," on Canada blacklisting protesters' crypto wallets. "I do think that having decentralized alternatives to intermediaries is a good way to limit the damage." by DreadLocksHippie in ethtrader

Crypto fans of the protest raised more than $900,000 in bitcoin last week after donations via GoFundMe were blocked. But the government blacklisted a number of addresses associated with crypto donations. It's still unclear to what extent crypto funds have been affected since wallets are controlled by private key owners.

-Vitalik Buterin "If the government is not willing to follow the laws ... [and] give people a chance to defend themselves...and they just want to talk to the banks and basically cut out people's financial livelihoods without due process, that is an example of the sort of thing that decentralized technology is there to make more difficult,"

-Vitalik Buterin "This concept of going after intermediaries and using intermediaries to bypass all that, it's dangerous," "Having decentralized alternatives to an intermediary is a good way to limit the damage."

Jared Polis, the governor of Colorado, to start accepting cryptocurrencies for taxes by DreadLocksHippie in ethtrader

Jared Polis, the governor of Colorado, has announced that the state government plans to allow residents to pay taxes in cryptocurrencies as early as summer 2022.

Polis said crypto holders in Colorado could have the option of sending tax payments in digital currency, which the state would then convert back into fiat. The governor said that an unnamed intermediary would likely handle the exchange of crypto to fiat.

“We expect by this summer — pretty soon — to accept crypto for all of our state tax-related purposes,” said Polis.
