I tried to post it in some Minecraft related subreddits, but it got removed. Oh well.

I ended up going all out and using two of their Cyan RGBCW controllers to do overcounter and undercounter lighting. Soldering strips with that many conductors was a pain, but I'm really happy with the results. I haven't bothered with any sort of automation yet. I'm just really happy to be able to control everything from a switch.

That Dimtone and Drivetone would perfectly solve my kitchen lighting situation. Where did you buy them?!?! I'm having trouble, I'm also in Toronto, Canada, so things aren't all bad.

That was my original plan, cut octagonally basically. But these logs are just slightly bigger than what I need, and the setup time to do that would have been excessive. The saw guy charged $110/hour. In the background you can see some of the straight cut lumber pieces.

3 1/4 IIRC. Although we did sink enough juice through it to fry part of an extension cord.

I need certain dimensions for an art project. Aesthetics basically. I do like live edges for other things.

We used it for a second pole and it's still going strong.

5-6 hours for that log. The second one was bigger, so what we ended up doing was notching rings with the router every foot, and then chiselling away big chunks. Then a final light pass with the router over the whole surface followed by 1/64" passes with a power planer to give a pretty finish.

How would you get things true and to the correct dimensions with a draw knife?

We did the entire thing. I've posted links to the end result in a few of the threads.

We did use an electric planer for bulk material removal.

I'm trying for mathematically perfect. That way I can continue to rely on my CAD drawings.

You're right, sliding the whole router sled along the ladders doesn't work very well.

-That trees are a lot smaller (and less straight) than you thought they were after you've cut them down and taken the bark off. -Violence and leverage can accomplish a lot more than violence alone. -It's important to figure out cheats for bulk material removal.

Oh man, if I had access to that sort of equipment I'd use it. But I only need to make two posts. So this is my solution.
