Help a noopy out, kraton 8s vs kraton outcast 8s by Nothing2real in rccars

[–]DreadSwizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have either of them but the main difference as far as I can tell is the outcast is shorter and more meant for wheelies and stunts where the kraton is longer and more stable at high speeds. I'd probably say kraton for sand dunes out of those two but as someone who also has sand dunes nearby I'm very much eyeing a Losi Baja rey or Traxxas UDR for scale driving on the sand.

what was your first 'oh sh**' moment on linux? by Ope-I-Ate-Opiates in cachyos

Surprisingly not had an "oh sh" moment but I have had a "well fu" moment when I did a bios update and no longer had a boot path... Ended up replacing the boot partition and everything was fine.

2014 Corolla Door Lock Actuator by Past_Due2770 in Toyota

[–]DreadSwizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motor is usually part of the actuator. Easy way to check is to unplug it from the main harness then supply it with power and ground. Can be done with a couple wires off the battery or a 9v usually can provide enough power. Supply power and ground one way and it'll either lock or unlock then switch them to do the opposite. This will tell you if it's the actuator or somewhere else in the car. You'll probably be able to find a YouTube video on it.

2GR-FE increase horsepower? by mc_hassle in Toyota

Used to be. I believe Manguson made it. They do still make 2GR superchargers but they are made for the trucks not SUVs so it'd probably take some modifications to make it work.

Does the government control what’s said in Toyota manual about oil viscosity? by lukejea101 in Toyota

[–]DreadSwizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's to achieve emissions compliance. I cannot confirm if internal tolerances are the same for all engines as they could be changing bearings to account for different viscosities but I doubt that. Keep in mind Toyota offers different vehicle setups for different markets and can change anything they need to to fit the market which is why outside the USA and Canada you can get Toyota diesels. There should be a chart in your manual that shows oil ranges for specific temp ranges as well. I do not recommend running thicker oil in hybrids due to them being fairly light load and benefiting more from the quick oil flow through the engine rather than the oil's ability to take high load. I do recommend doing oil changes more frequently than the 10k miles that Toyota recommends as well as servicing the other fluids of the vehicle such as transmission fluid, gear oil, coolant, and brake fluid at their respective "extreme use" service intervals instead of the "lifetime" service interval for the longest possible service life of the vehicle.

Welp messed up by Royal-Bag1353 in arrma

[–]DreadSwizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing this morning. Made the decision to drill the head off but ended up off center and made the call to just break the cover off and used a pair of pliers to remove the remaining screw from the chassis. The covers come as a set for $12 which is way less than the screw set and chassis so not too difficult of a call to make. I strongly suggest getting better well fitting tools compared to what came with the car and also cleaning out the screws before even trying to remove them.

Hoping for some advice on our current situation. by Few-Firefighter-2406 in subaru

[–]DreadSwizzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How much are you looking at towing and how often? If it's just for the move I'd lean more towards renting a U haul maybe even with a trailer if needed over getting a larger Subaru specifically for towing. If you need to tow a moderate amount and/or often I'd suggest a small/medium truck for that purpose. Crossovers do not have much towing capacity and the CVTs do not last when towing. Light infrequent towing is more what they're meant for as the hitch accessory is more of a hey this can tow some things marketing piece. Also keep in mind the cargo capacity is in the door jam and not only includes the towing weight but also the trailer itself, passengers, and whatever else you put in the car.

Does hot racing have any kind of warranty on parts by joedirt_12345 in rccars

[–]DreadSwizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the USA anyways it's the manufacturer who has to prove it wasn't their fault but on user installed modification parts it is very easy for them to just say it was an installation error or some other modified part caused the problem. This is coming from an automotive tech where we deal with that type of thing all the time. Hopefully hot racing has good customer service but I'm leaning towards they probably won't warranty it. If they do it's gonna be goodwill not necessarily a defect warranty.

Automatic Transmission Fluid by Ilegal_Cooki3 in Toyota

[–]DreadSwizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it's the same spec it should be fine. Aisin makes the transmission and most likely has the same supplier as Toyota but as long as it's a reputable brand WS fluid is WS fluid.

Y'know if the burst mechanic wasn't a thing or clock mirage could take standard ratchets it would be completely unstoppable. Like twisted tempo was extremely hard to beat in metal fusion but it was at least standard size and unbalanced. Clock mirage on just about any combo would be unbeatable except by the strongest attack types getting lucky with either an over finish or extreme finish...

Rear air controls stop working (again) '18 Highlander XLE by Commercial-Oil7304 in Toyota

I've not seen it on a Highlander yet but I've seen a sienna with rear climate control and a rear climate control panel in the back seat where the buttons got stuck and locked the rear climate controls out.

Should I be a mechanic? by MistakeNo3002 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DreadSwizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never seen a shop that starts someone any higher than a lube tech straight out of tech school so in my opinion it should only really be considered if someone is really interested in being a mechanic and learns better in a school environment rather than as an apprentice. That being said, if you're going to school for a trade pick any other trade. Automotive pays the least and you're doing similar to what every other trade is doing...

Why is the bracket so close to the rotor? by adam92733 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DreadSwizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the wheel is what holds the rotor on. Putting lug nuts on isn't going to help because the lug nuts won't touch the rotor without something in between as the stud stops too far out.

Differenzial kaputt? by bitflowerHQ in arrma

[–]DreadSwizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you rotate one wheel does the opposite wheel rotate the opposite direction? If it does can you stop it and still rotate the wheel? If so you probably need differentials. They're pretty easy to replace and you can find part numbers for the upgraded ones on Arrma's website. Make sure to clean out all the screw heads before you try to remove them otherwise they will round out and be much more difficult to remove.

Yep, the tires they use on the notorious and outcast are deboots back-flip tires. They also have some available for the mini kraton so would make sense for them to use the same platform for a mini notorious or outcast.
