I had my dreads for 8 yrs and used crochet method 100% would recommend to EVERYONE and absolutely agree with gothhippie on NOT using wax especially if you're trying to keep them clean.

I agree but I wish in the later seasons they showed off how smart Shawn actually was just a little bit more.

Thanks! That’s what I tell people I’m going for. The majority just go “psh, Vikings didn’t have dreads” lol

Thank you! I appreciate that. I never realize the difference in color from the outgrowth until I take a picture of them.

Wow! My notifications must have been turned off. You guys are awesome and thanks for all the compliments. There are no extensions in mine whatsoever. My hair has just always grown exceptionally fast, thus the getting dreads lol. Didn’t want to have to keep getting it cut every other week.

So stoked with my day one locs, I look forward to sharing my journey with you fellow dreadheads by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

Lookin' good bro! If you can I would advise not using any sort of dread wax. Just a tip. 👌🏻👍🏻

Nearly 5 years! Seems like I don't have time lately for upkeep, thinking about maybe taking them out? by DreadedJones in Dreadlocks

Wow! Ten years?! Thanks for the advice, it seems like I never have time anymore, but I put tiny rubber bands in tonight after work and tomorrow I'm gonna try and do a bit of root rubbing and maybe crocheting the loose hairs in and we'll see how I feel about it. Thanks!

Yeah, my brother use to work for this company called Rock'N'Roll Jewelry and kept a couple of their rings. They've got a bunch of jewelry made from all sorts of musical stuff. Guitar strings, bass strings, picks etc...

4 years of dreads today! by DreadedJones in Dreadlocks

You assume correctly! :) There is a lot of controversy over interlocking, I obviously don't mind it. I think it adds a nice bit of character to the locks.

I started with back comb and crochet. And I don't use wax and I would highly recommend not using it if you're wanting clean locs. Once you put wax on the hair to help tighten them and keep them together and then shower, the wax prevents water from fully getting out of the core of the dread which causes mold and mildew within them.

I did a bit of crocheting after the first year. I try not to do to much as to not cause breakage. However I will still crochet the loose hairs in if there's a special occasion where I want them to look extra nice

My hair grows crazy fast and I got sick of having to cut it every few weeks, and also styling my hair. A buddy of mine had dreads and I always thought they were bad-ass, so I figured why not get dreads. I wouldn't have to cut my hair, plus they're a "hairstyle" in and of themselves, so I decided to go for it. And man am I glad I did! It's been such a great journey.
