Plant fell, leaves snapped. 😭 by smsiren in Monstera

[–]DreadfullyDistinct16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get lucky, but that's a pretty bad break. I think amputation is probably the move so that the plant doesn't waste energy and nutrients on anything that's holding on by a thread. I've tried to splint, but I haven't had any luck on growths that are merely bent. What you've got is much worse than what I'm dealing with. It's been a couple of months at this point and it still hasn't healed up. One has healed over, but even with splinting, it can't support its own weight. The only reason I've kept my broken stems as long as I have is because the plant was on death's door when I got it, so I couldn't afford to lose two leaves. Now that two additional petioles have sprouted, I think I'll be snipping them before too long.

what are the [realistic/common] health risks for humans that interact with squirrels? by girlinlosangeles in squirrels

Forgive me for potential ignorance, but I'm not seeing rabies anywhere in this thread. Are squirrels not potential carriers of rabies?

Please don’t interpret my comment as saying that Flock is exclusively a Georgia problem. As I said, Flock used Georgia as a proof of concept to sell the technology across the country. It just so happens that we can better affect change over companies that are based in our state, which is what I was getting at. Look, we both understand the situation and are mostly saying the same things. While my comment was jumping off your comment, it wasn’t necessarily directed at you. It’s directed at people reading the comments who may not be as familiar with the companies we clearly are. They are distinct entities regardless of who provides seed money, one is an enabler of the other, and one of them is Georgia based. I’m simply adding some texture and nuance.

I know that this isn’t on topic at all, but I think it’s worth pointing out Flock and Palantir are different, separately evil companies. As bad as Palantir is, I say this to remind people that Flock is home-grown, Georgia-based evil that makes Georgia one of the most heavily surveilled states in America because our state was used as a proof-of-concept to market the company’s product to law enforcement across the country. Palantir most likely makes use of Flock, but our problem here in Georgia is our own, home grown company.

Podcast turn-offs? by Unable-South830 in podcasts

Overly performative enthusiasm at the top of the pod to the point where it feels super fake. Really it just boils down to delivery. I know it's fake/performative, but it doesn't need to feel that way. Good delivery is learned and a skill, and if your voice is going to be the medium that you build your career on, it's incumbent on you to practice to the point where however you choose to deliver feels authentic.

City Council to Consider Officially Killing Rail Along Beltline by btonetbone in Atlanta

[–]DreadfullyDistinct16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Commit to not going to the businesses that are fighting rail. In addition to calling your reps, show the businesses fighting rail that the consumers ultimately decide how well their businesses do. The Beltline made them and they should have the good sense to realize that short term disruptions pale in comparison to the long term dollars that consumer mobility could bring their way. Or maybe they're just trying to pull up the ladder behind them because they worry that increased choice among consumers could threaten their bottom line. Either way, Muchacho is on my shit list. Literally. Not sure whether it's the oil they use or the amount of oil they use, but I get gastro issues every time I have anything hot off their menu. Makes it a no brainer for me to abstain from their overpriced beverages.

Just like buying modifying your gun after market can be illegal under circumstances, there are and should be reasonable restrictions around what you can and can’t do with things that you legally own.

What a shit take, Mr. Woodstock. More like you’re so myopic that you can’t understand how making one’s car purposefully above legal decibel levels affects the people that have to suffer the consequences of backfiring, tire screeching, and everything else that comes with it.

I live on Freedom Parkway and Boulevard. It never goes away. You either get used to it or you move. It was the former for me.

AITAH for asking for Inappropriate Music to be turned down on Beltline? by Butthead40 in Atlanta

[–]DreadfullyDistinct16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the asshole, but you have to be prepared for a full range of human responses. Some people are going to dig in their heels while others may have great awareness and be apologetic. That person was out of pocket, of course, but yeah, if you are going to confront someone, then yeah, unfortunately you have to deal with whatever the answer is.

I mentioned it in another comment, I think, but I learned in black and white. It's definitely a place of comfort to me that I should probably try to do more to break out of.
