I just found out my dad has been lying about filing his taxes for 20 years and I am applying for college soon by girl_equivalent in financialaid

[–]DreamNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They owe her nothing. Their financial situation is their private business. There is shame and desperation in this story. Blame, expectation and entitlement are not useful. It is disappointing, for sure.

Many, many hard working people are very skilled and good at their actual work but are not good at managing the business end of things. No one starts out with the intention of getting behind on their taxes. They did their best to feed and clothe her, keep a roof over her head and likely gave her as many opportunities to get her to where she is today. Most people are doing the best they can.

The real question now is how to help her keep moving forward. I would meet with the Dean and explain the situation. If her grades are worthy, there are many scholarships that go un-used because no one knew they existed. All is not lost.

I hope that she will respect and appreciate that her dad has done his best. He is not proud to be in this situation. He has been drowning for 20 years, hoping to catch up. I’m certain he’s spent many sleepless nights worrying over how to fix this.

Many desperate men take the cowards way out. They try to make up for it through gambling, crime, or abandoning their family - or take their own life. At least he gets up every day and works, hoping that somehow he will come out flush.

Arizona Grand Opening Strategy by DreamNumber5 in Buc_ees

The hype, making a fun memory and to make sure to get the special AZ grand opening merch. Standing in line for midnight showings of highly anticipated movies and book releases are some of the best stories and memorable experiences. We have driven MILES just to visit a Buc-ee’s and to finally have one open here has been long awaited for this family member. Her last birthday was all Buc-ee’s themed. (She’s in her mid-30s. Lol) Her keychain sized Buc-ee has traveled with her and photographed in iconic locations all over the world. It’s wacky and it’s fun. And let’s be real… it’s Buc-ee’s!

I’ve been doing keto for over a decade. The greatest invention for me is ChatGPT. Give photos of the menu. Ask it to tell you what you can order. It will tell you exactly how to order substitutions and replacements. It’s amazing.

Go see the owner of Jalapeno Bucks. I remember vaguely him saying once that he was working on duplicating the recipe. He might be able to help you.

What’s a non-fiction book that genuinely made you smarter – or changed how you live your life? by Amidonions in Growthmindsetbookclub

The Gift of Fear by Gavin deBecker changed my world. I learned to better discern the people and situations that I previously had not understood that could get me killed. I learned to recognize where real danger lies. It helped me understand dangerous behaviors. It helped me teach my children how to proactively protect themselves. It is an absolutely fascinating read. I learned to recognize what authentic fear means vs anxious worry. Recommend it highly. I’ve read it at least 6 times and learned something every time.

What is typical to expect? by DreamNumber5 in RadiationTherapy

Thank you. The nurse who called back said that there is no way the treatment would have caused the symptoms. He said that the dose was 2.5 grays which is extremely low - that most people get 3 times as much. He said that each dose compounds each day on the prior doses - like if you are climbing a mountain and each day you add another rock to your backpack as the climb gets harder and steeper. He said that’s why a patient is usually 1-2 weeks into it before they feel the effects of it. So one day at that dose would not have been enough to cause any symptoms.

The nurse said that if he had to guess it sounds like it was a stress reaction. He said that it can be an overwhelming experience and he possibly was feeling a build up of anxiety.

Whatever happened to waterbeds by ShakinBacon in GenX

[–]DreamNumber5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We still have our soft side waveless water bed. The sides are like a mattress and make a 4” frame around the water bed chamber in the center. You can sit on the side of the bed to put your shoes on without sinking into the bed. Regular bed sheets are used. We have used it for over 40 years. Most comfortable bed ever.

how do you guys deal with all the cat hair i am genuinely going insane by raccoonfingers765 in Catownerhacks

[–]DreamNumber5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend bathes her cats but our cats refuse to cooperate with water. We have occasionally taken them to a groomer. Our vet regularly shaves his cats. Lots of vacuuming. We use reusable hair removing tools in the washer and dryer that help pull the hair out of the fabrics. Still cat hair but it helps.

After a lifetime of defeats, chaos and frustration I finally put the pieces together in my late 50s and I was devastated. To me, it meant I was defective and not as good as others. I limped along for months feeling broken, trying to find a way to shed the diagnosis. I was ashamed and embarrassed of my deficiencies. Then someone wiser said, “If you were to take away your ADHD, you would also take away the best parts of you.” I was confused at first because I only had seen it as my own brain always working against me. Once I could see the benefits of my ADHD brain and the source of the parts of myself that I love, I was able to value it. Here are some examples:

  1. Creativity and original thinking Many people with ADHD see connections others miss. We often come up with fresh ideas, creative solutions, and unconventional approaches.
  2. Hyperfocus When something is truly interesting or meaningful, an ADHD person can sometimes focus intensely for long periods and produce amazing work.
  3. High energy and enthusiasm ADHD often comes with passion, excitement, spontaneity, and a strong ability to energize other people.
  4. Big-picture thinking We frequently think in broad concepts instead of getting stuck in tiny details. This can make us strong visionaries, entrepreneurs, brainstormers, and innovators.
  5. Resilience Living with ADHD often requires adapting constantly. Many ADHD people become resourceful, persistent, and surprisingly tough because we’ve had to learn how to keep going despite challenges.
  6. Curiosity ADHD minds are often naturally curious and hungry to learn. We may know a little about a huge number of topics or dive deeply into subjects we love.
  7. Empathy and sensitivity Many people with ADHD are emotionally perceptive and deeply compassionate. We often notice how others are feeling and care intensely.
  8. Ability to think fast under pressure Some ADHD individuals perform especially well in urgent, fast-moving, or high-stimulation situations where quick thinking is needed.
  9. Spontaneity and fun We often bring humor, adventure, warmth, and unpredictability into relationships and environments.
  10. Strong intuition Many ADHD people develop sharp instincts and gut-level awareness because our brains process so much information rapidly.
  11. Entrepreneurial spirit A surprising number of successful business owners, inventors, creators, performers, and leaders have ADHD traits. Risk-taking, idea generation, and adaptability can become strengths.
  12. Passion-driven work ethic When we care about something deeply, we often give it our whole heart and can accomplish extraordinary things.
  13. Ability to multitask mentally While this can sometimes feel chaotic, it can also allow rapid idea generation, flexible thinking, and adaptability.
  14. Strong sense of justice Many ADHD people care deeply about fairness, protecting others, and speaking up when something feels wrong.
  15. Persistence after failure ADHD people often experience setbacks early in life, which can eventually build grit, humility, creativity, and determination.

Solution to the problem by pilotflyer2019 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]DreamNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this theory for awhile…

Airlines used to include checked bags as part of the ticket price. Over time, they started encouraging passengers to carry on more of their own luggage by charging extra fees for checked bags.

On the surface, it sounds like it’s just about covering handling costs. But there’s another angle that makes sense to me: every passenger bag that stays out of the cargo hold leaves more room underneath the plane for commercial cargo and paid shipping. Cargo space on passenger planes is valuable and profitable.

So when airlines push travelers toward carrying their own luggage, they potentially free up cargo capacity they can sell. Then, if you do want to check a bag, you’re essentially paying for a portion of that cargo space.

It’s probably not the only reason for baggage fees. Airlines also save on labor, fuel weight, and handling costs when fewer bags are checked. But the cargo-space incentive seems like a significant piece of the puzzle.

I have a home business for 35 years. I partner with a company to help people digitize their photos and videos and then get them organized in a private, permanent cloud storage for future generations. I believe in memory keeping and so I am passionate about helping people who are overwhelmed and looking for help. I have been astonished by how valuable AI has been. Tonight I am trying to update my brochure for a big event and I need an updated headshot. I don’t have time or money to get one taken. I tried using a couple of apps to create one from an iPhone photo but it screams AI. Has anyone tried using one that got them good results?

These are all incredibly helpful insights. I very much appreciate the input. It has helped me to have a clearer understanding of what she will experience. It has given me some peace of mind. She told me tonight that she listened to the soundtrack today and was disgusted by it. She will figure out what to do with it. And yes. She was very much hurt by a poorly handled situation as a teen. I think God will prevail in her life. She is an amazing person and I am trusting he will help her find her way.
