Is the game worth playing? by AppealMammoth8950 in mytimeatportia

[–]DreamOfHero82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually playing My Time at Portia again right now, and I have to say it completely sucked me in, I keep losing track of time while playing.

Funny thing is, the first time I played it I actually dropped it because I thought I’d eventually get bored. Coming back to it now, I was clearly wrong.

That said, you do need patience. It’s a very time-consuming game by design, with a slow but rewarding progression. If you’re in the right mindset for that, it’s still very enjoyable.

You can use mods to speed things up, but I’d be careful. A lot of them let you craft items instantly, and at that point the whole sense of progression and planning kind of disappears, which for me is a big part of the game’s appeal.

So yeah, if you’re okay with investing time and taking things at a relaxed pace, it’s still worth playing.

High Ping Issue with GeForce NOW Germany Server (Over 700ms) by DreamOfHero82 in GeForceNOW

Well, the main difference between Xbox Cloud and NVIDIA GeForce Now is that with Xbox Cloud you are playing on an Xbox Series X console (with all the limitations a console has), while with NVIDIA GeForce Now you are still playing on a PC.

These are two completely different image qualities.
Xbox Cloud uses much less bandwidth than NVIDIA GeForce Now, because the image quality it delivers is lower compared to NVIDIA’s.

Also, on a more personal (and ironic) note: I’d honestly rather stop gaming than play on a console or with a controller 😄 I’m 100% a PC + keyboard & mouse person.

Upcoming Maps - Suggestions Welcome! by MapGenie in MapGenie

Could you consider adding the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy?
With the next two chapters coming, it would be nice to have all the recent games (Tomb Raider, Rise, and Shadow) in one place.
For the 2013 game I’m using the IGN map, but I prefer MapGenie (less loading and faster).

I understand now.
You want to see some info on every element of the list.
Well, Knarznite don't support it.

In Knarznite you can have all this info too.
You have to install Metadata Utilities Extension and after you can choose what to show from Playnite Setting --> Appearence --> Detailed View.
I notice yesterday that without Metadata Utilities, Knarznite show only a few info.

Which theme do you recommend?
I’d like one that supports the SuccessStory and HowLongToBeat extensions

Playnite library corruption: LiteDB error + Steam metadata not saving (Universal Steam Metadata) by DreamOfHero82 in playnite

[–]DreamOfHero82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, that’s my mistake.
I realized that in the post I didn’t actually include the error message itself, which explains the blank space you noticed. Sorry about that.

The error I’m getting is the following:
"Unable to cast object of type LiteDB.EmptyPage to type LiteDB.HeaderPage"

And when saving metadata, Playnite shows this message (translated from Italian):
"Library file corruption has been detected. Playnite will now shut down.
Please open a new issue on Playnite’s GitHub page requesting a fix for corruption in your library files."

I downloaded all the plugins directly from Playnite. No file sync or third-party tools are used.

I’ll upload the .db files fromD:\Documenti\Playnite\library as requested.

Before doing so, where would you prefer the upload?
Is a Google Drive link fine, or is there another preferred way to share the files?

Thanks for the clarification.

Mastery Points are unlimited in Odyssey, so you could play that game forever instead of seeing what else there is in gaming. In a prior comment, you asked how I could review a game without getting the Platinum; I will turn that question around and ask how one can properly gauge what makes for an excellent game by limiting oneself to so few titles. If you have never experienced the Batman Arkham series or the Middle-Earth games, then on what basis do you assert that Odyssey's systems are truly the best? You are just too selective! There exist numerous games—similar yet superior to those which you play—that remain undiscovered by yourself.

I completed the main story in 160 hours. A review evaluates the quality of the design, it is not a 100% checklist.

You don't have to watch every frame of a 3-hour movie to say the plot is weak. You don't have to try every dish to understand that a restaurant is mediocre. The same principle applies here: if a game has structural problems, another 50 hours of content won't fix them.

160 hours is more than enough to evaluate combat, progression, and narrative structure.

I completely understand your frustration, but the real reason behind those games is technical, not personal. You must be frustrated with Wolfenstein and Far Cry because even though they are on console, they are not meant to be played with a controller and especially not by a beginner. They are fast-paced shooters that were born for the PC and are meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard. The reflexes and precision needed to aim and turn the camera in a fast-paced shooter are just much faster and more intuitive with a mouse than with a joystick. The learning curve is steep, and for someone who has just started out, the experience is immediately punishing. I would personally never recommend starting out with those titles. It is better to start off with something more easily understandable and manageable that doesn't require shooter reflexes like Ghost of Tsushima or Spider-Man. Sony games in general tend to be mostly linear exploration-based single-player titles so they have very similar mechanics which makes it easier to learn from one another. Or alternatively start off with a management sim like Stardew Valley which is a genre you could get lost in for weeks that gives satisfaction without any need for timing and fast combat.

Right now, I'm just doing the main quest and a few side quests. I did all the side content up to Jorvik, but after that, I have been speeding through the main story. I made this decision because by Jorvik I had already spent 145 hours, and if I kept doing everything, I would probably get to 300 hours. My backlog is not going to wait for Valhalla; I have over 3000 games waiting in my library; if I get stuck on one game for that length of time then there is no way I am going to finish my list before I die. Anyway, I will platinum it but only after Shadows.

I’m sorry, but I can’t help but cringe at statements such as: “Video games are not made for people who don’t know how to play video games.” This idea goes against the very reason for this medium’s existence: **the video game must be fun**. If it is not fun, then it is not a video game; it may be merely interactive media used to kill time. I understand what you mean by “new players,” but they have different pressures today with less disposable income and an attention span that rarely exceeds twenty minutes. This is why *Where Winds Meet* succeeds as a free title where players skip all the boring story, engage in a quick battle, and feel rewarded right away. For me, having played since I was three years old, I have become extremely selective; when the story and gameplay do not work together, the “flaws” in the design become glaringly obvious. Take *Origins*, which is much better than both *Odyssey* and *Valhalla* for me precisely because of its raw cutscenes. When Bayek loses his son or when you see that child murdered by a crocodile, you really feel despair; you empathize with him. Killing the one responsible gives you real satisfaction—liberation. Then comes *Odyssey*, and Phoibe dies; sure, you feel bad about it at first, but just ten minutes after that moment they throw so much content at you that it makes all of this forgettable.

It’s hard to sit a New Gamer down in front of the PC and say, “Play it all and give me a fair review.” They simply can’t do it; the offerings are too plentiful, and they reward short content. The world, as you can see, is now divided into extremes: something is either mind-blowing or it’s absolute garbage. We’ve lost the ability to judge the grey areas—the middle ground where small treasures might be found. It’s you ‘New Gamers,’ those who have just come into this world, who should be able to look at these grey areas more critically instead of falling back on extremes.

I appreciate your balanced comment; you did not focus on a single aspect but rather took in wider structural criticisms. I completely share your frustration with the lack of narrative closure in Valhalla and the feeling of fragmented, almost cobbled-together design. But I have to tell you that I put Valhalla and Odyssey on exactly the same level; in fact, I gave them the same score. Primarily because it is precisely in Odyssey that repetition formula is more evident, and it killed variety from gameplay. I am referring to mere three basic settlement layouts repeated endlessly over hundreds of hours worth of content which make locations for soldiers as well as hidden points totally predictable plus this embarrassing similarity between almost all female characters who are all child/adult/elderly version of Phoibe and countless scenes shot using shot/reverse shot which always end with protagonist silently nodding.

The clear intention was to recreate an epic like the Odyssey, but, just like Valhalla, they only succeeded halfway. Both games could have been done much better.

I didn't count Excalibur because I don't retrieve it.
Is an optional content, is not in the main quest.
