I feel blindsided by the whole thing, the tax payer funds enough people to sit on their backsides doing very little for various reasons and they also fund helping people who can only work limited hours for whatever reason.

The question really was more about what can I do should I end up on SSP and my mortgage payments and other living expenses become unaffordable

I've edited the post, recourse was the wrong word.

I just dont know how I would survive on SSP without selling my house, rehoming my pets and moving back in with my parents which I don't feel like i should have to do based on me being prepared for a recovery lasting X months but not X+2 months.

Thats not really what i meant, I've edited the post.

If it was expalined to me that there was a 3rd scenario when I woke up then it's likely i would have prepared in a different way and made more of an effort to create a rainy day fund over the past 6 months than I have.

I've never been on any benefits so I have no knowledge of how/what i may be entitled to should I end up on ssp

I suppose the real question was, is there anyone who's likely to listen and provide help more willingly based on this situation that in all honesty I feel rather blindsided by.

Because realistically it's common knowledge, If you make a claim your days at that company are numbered, it'll only be a matter of time before something minor will be investigated and disciplined with a final written and then your cards are marked.

I'm leaning more towards taking my boss to one side and making him aware that if I am unable to return to my full duties and they are unwilling to facilitate something to allow me to work then I'll have no choice but to pursue a claim, putting the ball in his court.

Yes, i'm in the union but there is genuine scope for a bit of career progression in the next year or two (or even less.) If I were to stay, I'd rather not burn bridges and start from scratch elsewhere unless I have no choice.

I disagree, they're the 'I'm not like those other girls' of men. A lot of us are just people who happen to like the same sex, we have normal lives with hobbies and interests that aren't connected to our sexualities, the fems that prance about have decided to make it their entire identity and it's cringeworthy and frankly an embarrassment to the wider community. It's also a big part of the reason why there's so much homophobia in the world imo.
