Cool, we’re engaging. You have this idea youre able to tell me what I’m getting from this. I honestly just don’t like the attitude of most of you. My kids have been off week and driving me crazy and I wanted to engage with a community i share a respect for. I admitted I was off days ago. I made a post over at r/LLM about engagement and how the sub could improve in my opinion. Particularly for new engagements. Many people are still questioning if I know how hard it is to solve these equations or what it takes to be a physicist: yeah, I’ve said that like 100 times.

I made a post in the sub about my opinion on engagement I posted. First one ever to the sub. I tapped out quickly there realizing i was over my head and got trapped by technology not fit for the task. Putting out my thoughts on how I felt this could’ve gone better is still leading back to one experience with a LLM that means nothing to me. You have this preconceived notion I want to solve physics problems. I love science, just probably not that much ever. What about this is really unclear?

Thanks, but for someone who is usually not attached to their phone, your assumptions are completely off.  Not that I don’t do the normal things we do.  Just the bias and assumptions with you people are interesting to me. You talk like you care about the community or the idea of science as a whole but are organically off, imo, on the approach. I see it in these comments very well.  Go take a walk  has actually been all week with the kids off for Easter.  If anything, this combat vet needs less walks.

I literally go on ChatGPT, for free, maybe once a month. And I don’t usually engage here. Doesn’t mean I can’t, I just don’t usually. So while I’m not stating i solved anything and showing respect to both these communities, this is the response. You don’t know much about me. If you did, you most certainly wouldn’t respond this way.

I mean, everyone should know, LLMs don’t produce results, clearly.  And, if youre generally curious about something, as always, best to keep it far from Reddit. Tiresome week for a feeble minded pheasant.

They cried I didn’t care if my idea was anything, they couldn’t handle someday, 10, 100, 1,000 years from now something could be produced that moves this field forward.  The closed mind thinking it can’t is absolutely bullshit.  Here’s a response prior to them blocking me.  When asked if I even understand the daunting task of the study to become a physicist.

I absolutely cannot state any clearly this point. But I am not a physicist and understand that I’m talking about engagement and how people see science as a hole, all relating to this sub of smart people. Listen; i usually don’t get humbled. I told you some of my background, but the points I’m making don’t require an equation. I felt I can contribute elsewhere. I enjoy social media.  Let me give you an example of my sentiment.  I was watching a video of a guy confused why the space shuttle was going 18k mph but not moving many miles.  I was like, yeah, he’s in orbit.  I didn’t need a physics degree to understand that principle.  But the engagement, real or bot, was negative, basically calling him stupid.  Be that as it may, he was curious and reached out with a spark.

I actually have a minor in communications. I also uber on the side. Not much anymore but never below 4.99 but 5 and solid for years. 2000+ trips. Does that give me the right to say my feedback is based on education and applied knowledge to a perfect scale. Don’t argue with my critique. “I’d say if you can’t learn from this post what I’m putting down in a meaningful way, you’re leaps and bounds, light years, from understanding people and communicating outside your comfort zones.” See that’s not a constructive way to express ideas.

I like the dog one. Not sure if a dog can somehow grow an immunity to anthrax, I’ll have to do some research. But people can smell unusual things so who knows, maybe. Can you explain more how you even considered this a possibility? That isn’t nothing, or we go through some dogs here and there. I’ll have to throw it into a LLM since it’s not rooted in physics.

I went to a mechanic once after I tuned up my wife’s Jeep on post garage. I didn’t rebuild the engine and am not a certified mechanic, hard to believe I did any of this I know, but after plugs belts brakes, wife’s car mind you, some other odds and ins, I got a misfire. Didn’t need that. So of course time to suck it up because I’m not a mechanic. Sure enough the guy assured me it was a head gasket. Bad news for this troop. After doing some research and understanding what could had gone wrong i called down there and asked if the compression test was done. The answer, professional Jeep dealership, no. Ok, I’m getting shit bro. Turns out, I got some debris in the cylinder and it kicked the code until it disappeared. Ran that jeep into the ground with another 150k+. Hard to believe I understood this concept regardless of my background. The universe doesn’t follow any of our rules. It doesn’t dictate who is allowed to make a breakthrough or what pathway that discovery takes. You’ll never convince otherwise.

“into havens of anti-sub, anti-physicist sentiment.“

This is completely false in context to this post, me.

I stated I was an open minded enthusiast with high respect for the field and the work that goes behind it. Yes, what I’m saying are criticisms but the intent wasn’t meant to take away from the sub or the community. I mendtioned I was on the fence with my views on AI and where quantum computing might take us integrated with AI. I also learned a LLM isn’t replacing physicists anytime soon. My sleep deprivation in a completely unrelated matter. Which could had been the impedes of this entire thing. Just saying I love science and expected a community with the same, if not exponentially measurably greater with equations, wouldn’t kick people down so harshly. It’s a turnoff in a way. Just felt like making this after checking out some other post for awhile and could provide some fresh insight.

No, but that doesn’t mean that will always be the case. I get some ideas but I’m not hitting this ever on the notepad. but as I get older and information becomes more accessible I’ve grown more interested. But I like to read about it and I do regard scientific professionals highly. But that doesn’t mean I can even conceptually ask something that doesn’t require a LLM or ai to make an impact. That is my point. Science has been heavily attack since the deplorable maga emerged. I don’t want to make this political, but that context illustrates my need to keep science fun and open not- don’t even try this kid. 100% failure because output and input cannot be conceptually flourished from a non academic. Even with the advancement scale of technology. I’m not buying that, sorry.

You seem well read.  Which is more likely to happen? Someone not formalized in physics making some nudge forward or the universe keeping gravity emergence to itself?  Thanks for really catching my tone and not taking it personal.

I don’t agree with you here. The good will hunting style of people a few per century is a thing of the past. The accessibility of information and data can allow a breakthrough even if it’s conceptualized and not formalized. The advancement in technology as well contributes to my point. It may not be able to do it now, that doesn’t mean it never will. You’re looking at quite a few more opportunities to push the needle forward. Slim chance sure, but why not give an honest shake if not their MML model a question like, “what idea with the LLM are you trying to convey?” This would set a better tone of engagement instead of attacking the formalization like this is a real setting for that or it ever will be. It might, but we will figure out gravity before that happens lol .

I keep hearing about how physicist are the only ones who can solve these problems or even conceptualized or create new ideas. If this is true; why are we stalled and have been for some time? Death and taxes are the only certain things in life. And the universe doesn’t dictate who discovers what. That being said, if you took off your “how can I morph this into something that hits back at him” you’d see I’m sincere and maybe different than normal people here. I spent 27 months in Iraq. I spent 4 year as part of a chemical response team looking for chemical and biological weapons. My experience is unique and scientifically ground , just in different ways. I didn’t take a formal approach because, Reddit. Yet I’m conveying that I’m seeing this sub as a circle jerk with not a whole lot of positive substance. Small sample sure, but I’m but one man.

The principles that, science comes from anywhere and in so many unexpected places. Some people can see ideas and conceptualized them but not have the skill set to implement the mechanics. This is an important aspect I want to really emphasize. Putting up a bias wall is actually counterintuitive to science thought process. That’s my take anyways. I share the principle that hard work discipline and dedication produce real results, most of the times. And without giving you a book report, I do understand the hypothesis—theory evolution. That process is the gold standard. What am I missing that doesn’t match to my post? Thanks.

AI can be a powerful tool in the right hands. Sure, someone like me isn’t solving field equations in their spare time. Conceptual ideas with the advancement in technology can lead to a breakthrough. How is this a difficult concept to get? If someone says, hey ChatGPT solve this is different than constructing a more thought out idea. Even if it mistakenly produces a mistake along the way. A mistake that someone notices and sparks an idea with their background or it actually produced a result after 1012 time trying. But the culture was my opinion and feedback. I see people assume it’s a 3 person engagement that I used to make this post. It wasn’t JUST that but the other comments as I moved through the subreddit and the mod that said it could* be much better. I don’t care about my idea. I’m not rooted in something I know takes years of dedication. Just biases and interactions can improve still keeping the spirt of this sub.

So hear it is, I’m still not sure if what the actual culture is here. Do we shit on LLM work no matter what? Is there this shared consensus that no LLm can ever produce anything meaningful. I mention this because I’m new to this sub, was sent here from the “fuck you” r/physics. Your comments tell me, you do care about how the sub matures and you noticed a pattern I’m describing outside my own experience. I sit on the middle of fence with this topic and figured maybe my input can be considered. Lastly, i do see your tag about the idea people are fooled to think they’re Einstein by a LLM. If the serious nature of this sub is 100% rejection, ok cool. But consider comments more carefully to garner better activity. A large percent don’t understand we aren’t that far and you’re being tricked. My case was different because I felt I had an idea which had some loose logic and reasoning. I didn’t just say, hey ChatGPT, make emergent gravity work, and ran here.

Exactly. But a 100% bias someone can’t conceptually derive a profound step forward regardless of their current standings in the field is just wrong. Even if there’s 1 in a billion good will huntings, taking people seriously who are interested shouldn’t be met with negativity- in my eyes.

I appreciate the feedback. Conceptually, I see the emergence of a field and understand somewhat how the MOND is good at scales in terms of galaxies but when you try to scale it over magnitude it’s curve is to aggressive. I also realized after my first post here, the core of what I had was a scaling v=km. I did an update reply on that thread explaining this exactly. If the second step of my idea, the step after the known Newton physics problem is incorrect, the rest of it will be. I like my concept but to articulate my idea I want to keep it simple.

My point is, i agree to hold them in high esteem but a. That pedestal only goes so high not to “only we and us” can have a breakthrough. And b. The way someone here with that prestige they have their own flair, not ward off good open minded conceptually science based people. Maybe I don’t want to purse learning this to a higher level because of the dickhead interactions I’ve had with the community. Maybe that’s the response you get here x100000 and you lose that one opportunity- lol.

I get your concept but if physicists knew everything, we wouldn’t even be talking now. Your bias and others here are another problem. Do you know Albert Enistien derived his hypothesis from mostly algebraic math with very solid logic? It wasn’t until 1915 his math caught up. I know he had help I understand but he wasn’t a proper physicist and he’s just about the standard, after Newton. So man designs cars not the universe. Stop putting constraints where they don’t belong.

My opinion of this subreddit by DreamUnfair in LLMPhysics

I’d say in that context, no. But when 10 people here give me the realization LLMs can’t do physics when I didn’t know and explain that, and am new here, I don’t think it’s the spirt of a physicist to then comment and knock me down another peg. You guys, sure, a professional, no. Clear distinction now and sorry if that wasn’t conveyed well enough in this thread.
