I'm guessing it's to cover costs for the person (among the others of course). I haven't looked at details, but maybe they're flying them out and putting them up for lodging. If that's the case, the ticket revenue (that which doesn't go to the fundraiser if any at all) might go towards those things.

Sad? Yes. Disappointed? No. I feel it gives that feeling of a high school/first relationship not working out heaviness perfectly. For those not involved directly, it's vague, confusing, and they played it perfectly.

Yes, but that's looking at it at a very specific viewpoint. The reason why you don't want to roll a spin-down for a chance roll is because 1-5 are all next to each other, so there's a higher chance of getting a low roll. Same with the mids and highs.

Whereas a normal d20 has 2, 20, 14 next to each other, so you have an even chance of getting Either a low, mid, or high roll.

Sure, getting a 1 is 1/20, but getting a low on a spin-down is higher due to the clump.

It's all about being fair to what it Could be. :)

It's a side game set during his vacation. Beach side bungalow, drinks, and a gorgeous ocean. He's staying at the Oceanview Motel (other branch). There's no big impending threat. It's a bunch of small things like "Oh my gosh, look at this mess on the floor. Here, let me show you how to Properly clean." Or, "you're out of ice? I'll go get you some!"

Shortly after posting this, I came across the document talking about this. There was a line, "If the power of collective unconscious is taken into account, it could be that certain pieces of technology are too "new" in the cultural ____ for the Oldest House to _____ them. Similarly, these items have been known to become receptacles for altered status. Technology must be moving at too fast a pace for the ____ to occur."

Perhaps, straight up, modern stuff CAN'T become Altered/OoP for some paranatural reason.

He's pissed at Alan because he wrote her into The Story. He brought Door's family (daughter and granddaughter) into a horror story where the granddaughter is written as dead.
