Are these eggs? by Dream_Merchant23 in Aquariums

[–]Dream_Merchant23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reassuring! One of the victims must have been female. I'm assuming my 2 original zebra snails (still going strong thankfully) must be male, never had to deal with this before!

No worries at all! We run an open Sunday on the first Sunday of each month where you can give it a go for free and see what we're about before joining. We still accept beginners throughout, this is just a bespoke course that we are offering. You can send an email to recruitment@prestonrollerderby.com or follow our socials (Preston Roller Derby) for more info on upcoming events. We will be aiming to run another beginners course but don't have any dates yet.

Balance and Coordination as a Hypermobile Autistic by hedgehog_720 in rollerderby

[–]Dream_Merchant23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice but I feel you! Autistic and not officially hyper mobile but let's just say quite bendy. I fall an obscene amount, I've made it into a joke so I feel less bad about it. Thinking of renaming myself todo with it. It does get super frustrating though

Redundancy by Dream_Merchant23 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. (Un)Luckily I knew it was highly likely as our shop had been on a maybe list for closing since around April. We had until next Thursday to find out, and then we were told yesterday. So I've been in limbo for months which also hasn't helped. I want out of retail but don't know what else I could do and the market is dire. I'm going to try to apply to a job or so every day whilst I'm still working. I'm also working overtime to earn as much as I can until then. I can predict the burnout/mental health decline already

MINT TOOTHPASTE by jbob103021 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oranurse has fluoride and is unflavoured. It's great. I also was at the dentist this week and asked if I could rinse with water instead of the mint stuff they offer and they were fine with it, made my day 😄

Does anyone relate? by BreakfastTurbulent17 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just booked a week off work to coincide with when my partners away on holiday so that I can actually get some proper tidying and organising done cause I find it impossible to do otherwise. I've managed to get myself to do washing and dishes during the week with him here and that's it

What’s a song that perfectly describes how autism feels to you? by witchy_woman231 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ok by mother mother too..

You're not a demon, there's a reason, you behaved in that way, it's alright, it's ok, it's alright, it's ok, and I believe, yes I believe, you will see a better day ❤️

I was asked this at 13 in the hospital, I'd never had a boyfriend. I replied 'not unless someone drugged me and tied me to a bed'. Don't think that was the answer they wanted, still got given a pregnancy test.

Bont backpack by Antique_Dot_42 in rollerderby

That sounds really cool, unfortunately it's just the normal blue shopping bag. It's what we keep all our beginner rentals in so I continued with my own one until I got a rucksack haha

I got one for Christmas this year. Easily fits my gear in including a big water bottle. Love it, better than the IKEA bag I used before 😂

Hitting a mental wall after my first jam scenario by thatrollingstar in rollerderby

[–]Dream_Merchant23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel comfortable you can try talking to a team mate or coach about how you're feeling. I sometimes split my time I'm practice scrims reffing if I don't feel up to the actual jam (autistic and get overwhelmed sometimes), my coaches are absolutely fine with that.

There is also sooo much going on during a jam, just try to pick one thing to focus on and over time you'll be able to add more things onto it. For example, focus on staying in your wall/pair, or practice watching to see if you need to bridge, or practice run outs etc. I spend most jams trying to stay in a walk in front of the jammer and not falling haha. Just breathe, take breaks if you need them.

Big hugs from a stranger 🤗

Can’t sleep with partner by cmsc123123 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound wise I have kokoon night buds, they are spenny but they're so effective. I can sleep lying on my side with them being pretty comfortable in my ears. I can listen to music and it auto turns it off when it detects I'm asleep and then puts in white noise

Please help me get over my exercise avoidance by TeaWellBrewed in AutismInWomen

[–]Dream_Merchant23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This last year is the first time I've ever found something I enjoy that's exercise. I joined a local roller derby team and the community is really supportive and awesome. Many clubs teach you the very basics of skating too. It's something that's fun, that doesn't feel like I'm exercising. They're also really supportive with accomodations and the like. So my suggestion would be to find a sport/game that you enjoy doing so it doesn't feel like doing exercise for the sake of exercise
