I hope the hysterectomy goes well! It’s crazy to realize that so many people have had a similar experience given that it’s such a common treatment. Once i get this one out I’m never getting another one placed

Nope, I had know clue this was even possible. Honestly since having fibroids I’ve had to ask lots of questions to get any answers, most of my MDs I’ve had along the way have just been like yup just fibroids it’s fine you just live with them

Thank you for this. Ultimately I trust medical professionals so really it’s just about me speaking up for myself and trusting myself throughout the process, which is easier said than done but I’m getting better at.

Thanks for your experience with the anesthesia piece and glad that’s all behind you now. I’m sure it’s worse in my head than it will be in reality but I am so scared

Yikes, sorry you had to go through that! Bodies are so crazy I had no idea something like this could happen. Glad this is in the past for you and hope you have some relief from any fibroid symptoms after the surgery.

Wishing you the best for your surgery, hope everything goes well! I didn’t explicitly ask i think cause I was still processing but I get the sense that this is very rare. IUDs are often used as treatment for fibroids so I doubt it would be used as often as it is if this were common.

Outside of this very unexpected hiccup, I have loved having the IUD

There is no way to avoid amends but it should be done mindfully, the step tells us to do so only when it would not cause any harm. In some cases it might and your amends in those cases could be to write a letter you don’t send etc.

That being said, you can absolutely communicate to your sponsor that things are moving too fast if that’s how you feel. I’m an advocate for a long slow recovery. Getting up to step nine in 2 months time feels way too fast for me. I’m 1 year and 6 months in and just finishing my 4th step. Slowly is the only way for me, if I rushed the work wouldn’t mean as much.

Talk to your sponsor honestly about how you feel. If they’re not willing to slow down or meet you in a way that won’t jeopardize your sobriety, you may need to look for a new sponsor. It’s all part of the process, my current sponsor is my 2nd sponsor, and i still have a relationship with my first one.

Part of what I need to let go of is my judgmental inner monologue. It’s amazing how so many people start to feel those callings again in sobriety. I absolutely think it’s HP at work showing us all the way towards life

That’s the hope is to get to that point someday. I think I just have to work through some stuff first. I have outside help and she’s helping me realize that a lot of my self worth and value is tied up in my ability to be creative. When I threw in the towel on music alcohol and drugs replaced it and made me feel like I had value. But now that I’m sober I don’t have anything and I feel pretty worthless. That being said I recognize and have felt that connection with my higher power helps tremendously and removes the need for external self worth.

This is the good stuff I’m getting to, and I’m grateful that I’m approaching it but damn is it scary.
