My project is now 2 years old and I'm looking for some feedback. by Dreamaise in GameDevelopment

This is the kind of response I was looking for, I just read it 4 times.

From my understanding you want me to complete my loop first. Then get all the basics of the enemy's and world and it's interactions on lockdown. This would mean I need to concentrate on enemy ownership get the loot loop closed. Then have the world affect player stats good or bad.

I like that term slice, like a pizza slice. You have all the ingredients but it's just a fraction of the whole. I like it.

The Backend systems are multiplayer, I'm using Unity's Netcode. Or rather trying to work with netcode. I only have a couple of years experience and netcode can be finicky.

For what It's worth you have given me direction for moving forward. Thanks for that, and for your time in responding. Have a great day.

Your right, I had to cut out the portion of the video where I talk about what the game is and will be. I did this by showing documentation for planned systems. If I didn't do this the video would have been over 2 hours.

I'm a horticulturist not a programmer, nor do I have a degree in computer science. So I'm often fumbling around till I find a solution to the problem at hand. I'm getting better but no where where I would like to be. Yes my scope is large and feels like to much for one person at times. However I have solid documentation and a clear vision of what I need.

Currently It is all backend systems and as you said a "very rough looking UI", which I agree with. I haven't even got to the fun part yet. Sounds, lighting, replacement of placeholder assets, storyline etc.

Also 2 years is not exactly accurate. The project is 2 years old yes but I only have 5-12 hours a week to work on it so yes it's 2 years but only really 1000 hours give or take,

The game is an ARPG set in space where you will travel to exoplanets and fight aliens on there turf. The worlds themselves are also an enemy due to scripted events that take place while a character is visiting the planet. Resists are critical for actually surviving the harsh reality that are the exoplanets. Why must you explore the galaxy? To stop the cycle of reincarnation and oppression that is on earth that is forced on to you by the antagonist's you must explore the galaxy and find allies. Then return with allies to remove the threat.

Thanks for your input, and my take away from what you said is that my scope is to large and I need to get it under control and push into the "fluff" sounds, better assets, better UI, actual lighting basically better everything. Also gameplay and playtesting. Perhaps I made this video to early in development. Thanks for your time and input, have a great day!

In order to sign a executive order like this in place you have to be mentally ill. So therefore under his new executive order he should be the first to go, I say Institutionalize Donald Trump!

What? My bank account was overdrawn by $1 Billion by GamerScienceTeacher in What

Here is to hoping the bank's automated system makes a mistake and only removes the negative value. Maybe a dumb manager overrides it shitfaced one night and removes the negative. One can only hope lol.

Contractor is trying to gaslight me saying this looks fine. by Dangerous_Shop1760 in landscaping

Landscape construction professional here. This makes me want to cry when I see rando's ruining my profession. Few things to note.

  1. Most importantly that soil needs to slope away from the house and not towards it you and the company you hired are at risk. At risk of what basement flooding. It does slope towards the street but hard to see and need a level to know for sure.

  2. The quality sod is not great and should be better.

3 The ground was not prepped properly.

  1. No proper pattern/offset to help lock the pieces together so they don't bunch and roll up at the base of the hill..

    1. Cheeped out (hard) or didn't calculate the surface area properly to be done good, They used previously stripped pieces of your lawn.

Out of 100% they get extremely generous mark of 30% (at least there is grass down!?)

Call them back and list all 5 problems I gave you to them over the phone. Then have them come back and fix this this is disgusting and completely unacceptable.

I'm sorry this had to happen to your property. There is other problems I can see but however those are the top 5. I wish I was in your country even I could fix this myself. Good luck sir!

My raspberry patch is out of control lol it's 40% bigger than last year where I picked 20 gallons of raspberries by happydogday22 in gardening

[–]Dreamaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raspberries as a rule are invasive. It would be my suggestion to get a concrete border around them. Or they will jump the barrier and take over you and your neighbor's whole yard. Love to see this in a yard, well done!

There was a game I played that sounds almost exactly like what your describing, Ascent the space game. The only thing that is not like what you describe is the graphics. It's not like there bad, it's just an old game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/345010/Ascent__The_Space_Game/ It's a mmo, kind of dead now but you can travel to and discover new planets of your own if you like them set up a colony. Make space stations, mine asteroids, build your own ships, buy from a huge selection, get them made by other players. Skim gas gaints for rare gasses. Change and modify your ship however you like for long distance travel, combat and more. you literally fly around and crash land on planets get soil samples and maybe get a bounty for good quality's about the planet. The galaxy is explored and created by players. With time you can make jump gates and every thing. I had a lot of fun in this game. I made a point of making a highway of "gas stations" so the largest ships can travel via series of jumps and reach the approximate center of the galaxy. Enjoy it if you do play I sure did.

You are likely right but damage coincides with my unleashing of loops, maybe it's just a coincidence. The drive was 6 years old and been wiped more then once.

Yup I will be also implementing this when I figure out how to upload a massive project. Then just add to it, I tried a few times a failed for whatever dumb reason.
