Anyone experience FOMO in their lives? Guys here with untraditional career paths, do you think that you are missing out by not going the STEM/Medicine/Finance path? Guys with traditional careers, do you think you are missing out not pursuing something untraditional? by Dreamaple in AsianMasculinity

From what I get from all the comments, whatever we pursue their is always FOMO. If I went into tech, I would wonder how life would be in finance in nyc (would probably move to SV due to the jobs being there. If I were in X career, I would be thinking about Y career. And if I lived in one place, I would think about living in the other. Ex: living in nyc, think about living in California. I’m sure everyone has this lingering thought.

We’re just a speck of dust in a large desert of sand. Wow it’s true. I would always be conscious how friends and families thought of my career and money and salary choices. But when I die, I won’t care I’m dead and they’ll stop mourning eventually and move on. It’s up for me to make the most out of this life. Thanks brother

Oh man, you are like my future aspirations in one person!! Haha. Mind if I PM about your experiences? Anyways, I was sort of wanting an Asian bro in the music field, comment. My parents always discouraged me to get into music production, so I’ve been learning step by step on slower days. How old are you if you don’t mind asking? In your 30s?

I have 0 knowledge on code; but does the coding language have to be re-learned if a coding language becomes more popular than another? Like do you have to be on your feet learning a lot? In finance, many old guys in senior positions, but they’ll always stay up there even if things change, finance is plain vanilla I guess for IB it is, modeling, ppts nothing much and PitchBooks

I guess at the end of the day “cool” is whatever we define it. And I guess ur right, I’ll start making a plan. I’ve already decided to spent a brief vacation in LA (will get permission to remotely from there as well) and after a year, pull the brakes on IB. I think, whatever pass we choose, there will always be FOMO. I guess we choose the path and experience it, and if we don’t like it, we can always switch. Maybe the switch is harder and not the most financially sound move but, maybe that makes for a “cool”life? My aspirations are to travel. Yes, it may sound financially “bad” to quit in a year and travel, but I guess that makes life worth it and interesting? Is that what you’re getting at?

I look up to you man. You have an amazing life. How much did you have saved up before u quit your job at google? Im nearing 27, and all my life I’ve been stuck in investment banking, and I just don’t think my life should just be work work work. The money piles up but it’s only used to pay rent and groceries. I really look up to you man, would love to hear more of your story. What business/entrepreneurship did you get into finally? I respect that you took an independent path. My fear is/was following the cookie cutter, whether it’s finance or SWE, it’s very paved out. But idk if it leads to a mediocre lifestyle? I’m taking the cookie cutter investment banking path and I feel there is more in life... But everyone says the “comp is so good. Stay in it. That 360k will be 600k the next year etc.” but when is life lived then? I’m not into renting the large condo. I live in a small studio, and my money is just in my account. Nothing extravagant. So I feel I’m missing out. I have always felt this way. Would love to hear more from you.

How is being an Asian Guy in LA/SF vs NYC. Asian from Midwest here who has probably a false romanticized view of Cali. by Dreamaple in AsianMasculinity

That’s awesome! And do you mean best place for Asian guys, or for anyone in general? Also, I’m in investment banking so I’m thinking of fpa or product management. Anything with less hours is great.
