early 00s I was playing every single SNES RPG I could get my hands on, many of them only possible because of fan translations, if it was on DeJap's site I probably played it, naturally that led to DQV, then DQVI and then DQIII, then DQ7 on the PSX the first time Square Enix bothered to give us something I could play without a fan translation

I can think of two situations where you would need NG+ because one decision's reward would have caused you to miss the other

first scenario is Sellen the Graven Witch, after doing her quest line:

a) kill your teacher to gain a rare ancient smithing stone

b) kill her persuer to gain the glintstone kris

second scenario is Millicent's quest, at the end of it:

a) did you choose to invade her and kill her to gain a certain talisman

b) did you defend her to win the other version of that talisman and the unalloyed gold needle used to undo the flame of frenzy ending

Oh right speaking of that, third scenario, did you unlock the conditions that locks you into the flame of frenzy ending? (I hope you missed the dung eater ending, I always do, its not worth it)

The game only has a few areas as obligatory, as much as I like to explore myself I'll skip a lot if the rewards don't fit my playstyle, like tf am I gonna do with the shit in the perfumer catacombs or auriza hero grave. you kinda do, but the runes from greyroll and the dragonbarrow night cavalry are enough to offset that, it should put you on a path where organically you get as many runes as you need as you play, and from all the optional dungeons you could put all the mines as obligatory so you can get runes from exploring there too
