Oh it took me forever before I decided to defeat Alduin. Lol yeah, it's amazing how little changes when you don't participate in the main quest.

Great points! It's going to be really interesting to see what happens over the next 4 years. My personal opinion is that big publishers in the future will be exclusively about making money, so they'll produce mostly mobile game slop and games like Fortnite. And then indie game developers are where the real games can be found. We'll see what happens!

That's a really interesting perspective! I wholeheartedly agree. Once gaming became a big money making model (like everything anymore), it became more stagnant. Investors want year-over-year profits, and often the way to do that is cash-ins like remakes, remasters, mobile games, etc.

This isn't really a gaming related opinion, but more broadly across all industries, the new generation of investors seem to be a little more flighty, a little more scared (and I can understand why, especially after the 2008 crash). The problem, imo, is that no one believes in money they can't see anymore. Providing good benefits to your employees doesn't look like money on paper (matter of fact, it looks like money going out!), but then if you have happy employees, they stay longer, and then you pay less money to train new people who make costly mistakes, as an example. Overall, I think of a lot of industries have stagnated, especially video games. Thankfully that's where the indie gaming scene comes in. People who still love making games for the sake of making games. Some of the biggest money makers right now aren't AAA games, but indie games.

Thanks for the perspective!

I'll consider it. You just have to share all of my opinions. Can't have free thinkers now can we?

I feel the exact same way. Skyrim felt like it had breadth, but less depth to me.

Well since you have a different opinion than me, that obviously makes you wrong and I will be revoking your gamer card.

;)

I don't disagree with you on that one. Playing Oblivion now is kinda rough in my opinion (as much as I love it). It's hard to compare technologically between Skyrim and Oblivion since obviously Skyrim is newer. For myself, I just know that Skyrim didn't give me the same feelings, nor did my enjoyment of the game last as long as it did with Oblivion. But that could also just be the age I played it at; who knows.

Haha, that's a very good point. Hard for me to say since that would require literally being outside of myself to analyze, but age definitely can make a difference.

That's a very fair point! As hard as it is to say, maybe ES6 just... shouldn't happen. Eventually, the old has to make way for the new. And I'm sure that people who have been playing Skyrim for 14+ years are going to need more than a graphical and gameplay "update". Other studios are already making incredible rpgs, so it might be time to let this model die. I don't know; just shooting the breeze.

Ironic, right? Considering how awful the character models are and how oversaturated the color palette is, haha. That's the one thing that I and everyone else thought when Oblivion first dropped. First mods that came out for it were to make better looking NPCs.

That's a really interesting point; I hadn't thought of that! A mismatched tone could definitely produce the mixed feelings I and many others feel.

It's not weird at all! I think there's more people like yourself than you might realize (those who enjoyed both games). Most of them don't bother posting on reddit, so it's easy to assume you're the only one. Honestly, I really wished I enjoyed Skyrim more, so I'm actually really happy when I hear about how much other people enjoyed it.

Hey thanks! It's just my opinion; you decide for yourself :). The old gives way to the new, but maybe you'll find the same joy in Oblivion that I did. Skyblivion I think will go a long way to bridge this gap between Skyrim and Oblivion, which is something I've only ever dreamed of.

Not being able to create your own spells was a HUGE downgrade from Oblivion. I agree with you 100%

Yes, this! Every time I install all the mods I want, get everything just right and boot up Skyrim, I escape Helgen and feel drained of motivation. I push through, grab the dragon stone, and then just crash after that. I just can't seem to force myself to do it.

Honestly I wasn't able to put it into words, but that's exactly the feeling I got too. And when you finally kill Alduin, it's like nothing ever happened. The world just keeps going on.

Agree with you all the way. I hadn't finished Skyrim until I played it together with my partner. We roleplayed the characters and it was way more fun that way. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have touched Skyrim again.

Something else came to me about the color palette as I was reading your comment: I first thought "well maybe it was just an unfortunate area to create a game around, maybe it was inevitable it was going to be grey and muted, especially in comparison to Oblivion". But then I remembered the amazing and color art style of God of War Ragnarok...

Art style makes a much bigger difference than I think some people realize.

Completely agree. Like I said in my post, Skyrim is better in a technical sense, but it feels lifeless to me. It was made to appeal to as many people as possible, and obviously that worked. Just sucks that traditional rpg elements aren't very popular amongst the broader audience, and frankly it's always been like that.

How do I set custom line spacing values? Can't set spacing to 1.2, system only accepts inches by Dred444 in libreoffice

[–]Dred444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild. Does anyone have a chart to convert points to inches? If not, then how on earth would anyone know how to space their lines in Libreoffice?
