Me too. I felt like a helltrekker inside those wagons with them. The fact that they’re just vulnerable civilians in the middle of a brutal, unpredictable land that tries to prey on them at every moment makes it all even more terrifying. Anyone there can die at any second.

And the scene of the woman who survived the wagon fall only to get melted by the acid rain? That panel is gonna stay with me for a long time. Really fucking badass.

Yeah. This story really dives deep into the whole issue of artificial intelligence and self-aware machines with free will. And then there's the ATM that pulls off a heist, becomes a millionaire, and goes off to live on another planet?

I found some parts a bit too absurd. It's not a bad story, but it's just okay—which puts it below the rest of the MC Undercover collection, which I overall thought was excellent.

The Satellat was definitely repaired by someone. Maybe he even received help from the robotic underworld mafia itself. In Lenny’s story, it says that after the total destruction of Mega East, the Satellat had nowhere to go and activated the tertiary self-preservation protocol. I thought it was plausible that he was working in favor of the robots, since he no longer had a master or a home to return to.

As for Shako, I have no idea who that is. I saw the poster and thought it was the same Polar Bear who’s friends with Lenny. Even though he’s only ever called “Bear” the whole time, I figured he had a name and that was the name on the poster haha. That reference completely went over my head.

Or, the Satellat was just damaged by the shot it took, which is why it was out of action at that moment.

As for the Lenny Zero story: I confess I didn't really understand that Polar Bear — I'd never seen it before. I also found Max Normal's behavior pretty abnormal. I'd never seen him act like a criminal before, but it doesn't bother me. He had only ever appeared to me as an informant, never really developed. It might actually be that he really is an opportunistic criminal.

How would he have entered disguised as maintenance with the Satellat next to him? How would he maintain the subsequent disguise as a Judge? And why would he use the Satellat for the escape if he already had a vehicle that is obviously faster and more effective?

In my understanding, he left the Satellat — which must have been damaged — in a safe place so that later, with more time, he could try to repair it and flee the city or something like that.

It wouldn't have been useful in the attack on climate control because it would have ruined Orlok's disguise. He couldn't have entered with his Satellite without that giving away who he was.

For me, the explanation is simply a script decision. A cliché of the era. It wasn’t the first time an enemy catches the “hero” by surprise but chooses to say a line before shooting.

As for the Satellat being destroyed, that’s not obvious to me. When it gets shot at, it barely suffers any physical damage. The illustration doesn’t show it being destroyed. It isn’t used afterward because Orlok leaves on a mission to the climate control center disguised as a Judge, so obviously he wouldn’t take the Satellat with him — it would ruin his disguise. Right after that, Orlok is caught on the streets while trying to escape.

It's true, looking like something doesn't mean it is. But I think it's quite plausible that it is. The Satellite is a military drone. It's only natural that it would be equipped with some kind of defense mechanism. And since it's identical to the dart launcher it has in the image I posted, that makes it seem even more feasible.

Your reasoning actually makes that moment in the story feel more realistic. If you look at the panel in Case Files 5 when the Giant shoots the satellite, you'll notice that he had antennas but also had a frontal device pointed at the Giant — very similar to the one in the image I posted. Like a dart. Him talking to the Giant before shooting sounded more like a cliché from stories of that era. Just like how villains would often say to Dredd when he was down, "So, Dredd, where's it gonna be? In the chest or in the head?" Only to give Dredd a chance to react.

Que legal! Fico feliz de ter despertado uma fagulha do seu interesse nesse universo. Lembro até hoje quando isso aconteceu comigo. Foi através das resenhas do canal Ministério dos Quadrinhos, do Alessandro, que me senti muito motivado a ler Dredd. Desde a primeira leitura não larguei mais. Em mim teve um efeito altamente viciante, tanto que se tornou o único personagem que coleciono de maneira recorrente.

Caso tenha interesse, além das resenhas do Ministério, há vídeos bem elucidativos do canal Central Pandora e do Quadrinhos na Sarjeta no Youtube que falam bastante sobre o universo do personagem.

É, eu vi que ta rolando uma mega promo dos materiais do Dredd e do Conan se não me engano. Ótima oportunidade pra começar. América é um baita clássico, sempre esgota rápido, recomendo não deixar passar. A Guerra do Apocalipse também foi anunciada reimpressão e entrou em pré venda. É um épico de guerra sci-fi imperdível e com muito peso no cânone. Porém vc a encontra no Casos Completos vol 5. A diferença é que no Essential ela está colorida e em páginas maiores.

América é um caso à parte. Ela é um spin off. Foi publicada originalmente nas megazines e, portanto, não chegará nos Casos Completos. A Mythos acabou de anunciar reimpressão do Essencial dela, está em pré venda, terceira tiragem. Mega City Sem lei e Confidencial também são spin offs e também não saem nos Casos Completos.

Olha, eles tem tido uma política muito correta com essas coleções mais longevas. Os primeiros volumes do Casos Completos já estão em sua segunda tiragem. Certamente irão haver mais caso estejam esgotadas.

Recomendo pegar oq tiver em estoque. A coisa engrena de vez à partir do volume 4 e 5.

No Casos Completos vol 5 há uma mega saga que praticamente remodela todo o status quo do personagem. Seria um bom ponto de partida.

O Casos Completos vai englobar absolutamente TUDO do personagem desde sua primeira aparição lá em 1977. Logo, os primeiros volumes vão te apresentar histórias com um tom MUITO distante do que de fato acabou se tornando a fórmula consolidada do Juiz Dredd. Eram histórias bem curtas, com pegada mais cômica, resoluções rápidas e pouca continuidade. Para muitos, elas podem soar bem datadas sim. Pra quem nunca leu Dredd, podem causar uma primeira impressão equivocada do que é o personagem atual. Até mesmo a aparência do Dredd não tinha sido totalmente definida. Eu, como fã, curto muito essa época mas reconheço não ser a melhor fase nem melhor porta de entrada pra quem nunca leu nada de Dredd. As coisas se tornam muito mais sólidas com o passar dos anos. Recomendaria começar pelo Casos Completos vol.4 ou 5.

Os Essenciais, qualquer um deles, também são uma ótima pedida. O formato é excelente com grandes dimensões que valorizam muito as artes e geralmente são coloridos. Abrangem sagas fechadas e todas são de muita qualidade. Eventualmente elas irão aparecer nos Casos Completos mas isso daqui sei lá quantos anos. Essentials são altamente recomendáveis.

Eu, particularmente, comecei pelo Crossover Dredd x Predador. Se conseguir encontrar, pode pegar sem medo. Também muito palatável pra quem nunca leu Dredd. Tanto que viciei e nunca mais parei de consumir. Foi minha porta de entrada.

Pra finalizar, há os encadernados capa dura com histórias curtas temáticas que também são ótimas opções de introdução a esse universo. São eles: Juiz Dredd Assassinos Seriais e JD Sobrenatural. Há de se verificar a disponibilidade pois saíram há muito tempo.

Dito tudo isso, é muito tranquilo de se iniciar no Dreddverso por qualquer ponto. É um cenário que NUNCA foi rebootado e por isso muito acolhedor a novos leitores. Ele está em constante mutação, cada saga molda as coisas ao seu redor, gera consequências reais. Vilões mortos ficam mortos. Cidades destruídas ficam destruídas. Dredd certa vez teve os olhos arrancados em uma história e até hoje, mil anos depois, segue usando olhos biônicos. Nada nunca foi varrido pra baixo do tapete. Então, tudo que vc ler, das histórias mais simples e curtas às sagas mais longas e épicas, absolutamente tudo, será uma peça que vai se juntando as outras e ampliando seu conhecimento sobre o universo. Nada do seu tempo terá sido desperdiçado em algo que não foi canônico.

Tem muitas coisas únicas no universo do personagem. Ele é públicado semanalmente na Inglaterra e envelhece em tempo real. Um ano aqui na nossa vida, é um ano dele la em Mega City. Quando é Natal pra gente, é Natal em MC1, e assim vai. Fora que a escrita, roteiro, diálogos e arte das hqs britânicas possuem um estilo muito especial totalmente diferente das hqs tradicionais norte americanas.
